A therapist typically meets with their client for just one hour each week, leaving 167 other hours unaccounted for. What happens during that time?

This is the gap that many mental health discussions overlook, and it's often where the real struggles occur.

AI, when developed with proper safeguards, can help close this gap. By flagging concerning language and discreetly notifying a caretaker, clinician, or parent, timely intervention can occur before the next scheduled session.

AI is not a substitute for therapists; rather, it can broaden their influence during those unseen hours.

67% of US teenagers believe AI is harming their critical thinking. That number is coming from them.

Two decades of data show technology has a measurable impact on cognitive development, literacy, and overall cognitive performance — and yet we're rolling out AI to kids without pausing to ask what it's doing to brains that are still forming.

The prefrontal cortex doesn't finish developing until age 25. These are the years that shape everything: decision-making, impulse control, identity, resilience. They're also the years kids are most vulnerable.

AI is exciting. It has incredible potential. But it wasn't built with developing brains in mind — and for young people with pre-existing mental health conditions, AI models that simply reflect back what they already believe can reinforce harmful thinking patterns.

We don't have to choose between innovation and care. But we do have to be honest about who these tools were designed for — and who they weren't.

A friend who tells you the truth is rarer than you think 💬
Honesty builds growth, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Value the ones who challenge you, not just the ones who agree.
