πΏ We all adapt to the world around us in different ways. Sometimes those adjustments become such a regular part of daily life that we barely notice we're making them at all.
For some individuals, especially those who are autistic or have ADHD, this can mean constantly monitoring how they speak, behave, or respond in order to fit in or avoid being misunderstood. This experience, known as masking, can help someone navigate daily life, but it can also become emotionally and mentally exhausting over time.
Understanding masking can help explain why some people feel drained despite appearing to cope well on the outside, and why self-awareness and self-compassion are such important parts of well-being.
