🌿 We all adapt to the world around us in different ways. Sometimes those adjustments become such a regular part of daily life that we barely notice we're making them at all.

For some individuals, especially those who are autistic or have ADHD, this can mean constantly monitoring how they speak, behave, or respond in order to fit in or avoid being misunderstood. This experience, known as masking, can help someone navigate daily life, but it can also become emotionally and mentally exhausting over time.

Understanding masking can help explain why some people feel drained despite appearing to cope well on the outside, and why self-awareness and self-compassion are such important parts of well-being.

Many individuals spend years adapting, adjusting, and carefully managing how they appear in the world in order to meet expectations, avoid misunderstanding, or reduce social discomfort. This process is often referred to as masking. While it can help a person navigate school, work, and relationships,...

🌿 Mental Health Tip: Create a "Not Right Now" list.

When worries, ideas, or tasks pop into your head, write them down on a separate list instead of trying to solve everything immediately. This gives your brain permission to let go of the thought for now, knowing it won't be forgotten.

Many of us carry mental clutter because we're afraid we'll lose track of something important. A "Not Right Now" list helps reduce that mental load and can make it easier to focus on what's actually in front of you.

πŸ‘‰ Sometimes taking care of your mental health isn't about doing more. It's about giving your mind fewer things to hold onto at once.

What is π™–π™£π™π™šπ™™π™€π™£π™žπ™–?

Anhedonia is the reduced ability to feel pleasure, enjoyment, or emotional connection to things that once felt meaningful or rewarding. People experiencing anhedonia often describe feeling emotionally numb, disconnected, unmotivated, or like they are simply β€œgoing through the motions.”

It can affect hobbies, relationships, food, music, socializing, intimacy, and even the ability to look forward to things. Anhedonia is commonly linked to depression, burnout, chronic stress, trauma, grief, and emotional overwhelm.

Many people mistake anhedonia for laziness or a lack of motivation, when in reality it may be a sign that someone’s emotional system is exhausted or struggling.

With support and treatment, many people are able to reconnect with joy, meaning, and emotional connection over time.

We can help. Visit www.moosejawpsychology.ca to learn more.

🌿 Many autistic adults spend years masking parts of themselves to fit into environments that were never designed with their needs in mind. Over time, this can lead to exhaustion, self doubt, and feeling disconnected from who they truly are.

Self acceptance is not about changing who you are. It is about understanding yourself with more compassion, clarity, and care.

Explore the full article below.

Many autistic adults grow up navigating environments that were not designed with their needs in mind. Over time, this can lead to confusion about identity, emotional exhaustion, and a persistent sense of not fully belonging. If you recognize yourself in this experience, it is important to know that....
