What a GREAT first week open! 🎉

How amazing it feels to finally be up and running and doing this. I loved meeting all of my new clients this week. Thank you for trusting me with your care, and thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. Your encouragement, referrals, shares, and kind words are truly appreciated! ❤️

As with any new business, there are always things you don’t discover until you’re actually in practice. One thing that stood out this week was the importance of extra comfort and support for clients with limited mobility. Client comfort is a top priority for me, and I’m already researching an upgraded treatment chair to make appointments even more comfortable.

Another surprise? About 75% of clients have asked about a polish finish! 💅✨ That means a polish option is officially coming soon. I just need to purchase my starting polish inventory, and then we’ll be ready to go!

The debris in this picture is from one toenail. Just one. Can you imagine the weight and pressure of this amount times 10 toes?

If you have a Senior in your life that you care about… ask them about their feet. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, feet are so often overlooked when it comes to self-care and healthcare and you’d be shocked at what could be hiding under a pair of socks or slippers.

We’ve had people with overgrown nails, not trimmed in a year (or more) because they simply didn’t have the tools, flexibility, or vision, to do it themselves, and they didn’t know how or where to ask for help.

We’ve had people who didn’t know they were in pain, until it was relieved by proper foot care.

We’ve had people unable to wear their regular shoes because their nails were so thick, there was no room for them.

We’ve had family members so alarmed at their parents poor foot health, feeling guilty for not noticing sooner.

The moral of the story is: talk to them about their feet.

1. Perform daily foot checks looking for overgrown nails, calluses, corns, blisters, skin breakdown, moisture, redness, pain or swelling. Also look in your socks and shoes for any foreign objects such as pebbles.

2. Take socks off at annual check-ups and any visit with primary healthcare providers. If you have concerns, point them out.

3. Ask caregivers what foot care is included in daily care. Don’t assume that feet are being taken care of because they’re being so well-taken care of in all other aspects of their day. In Alberta, foot care is a regulated profession performed by trained medical professionals. Not all healthcare workers are trained or are capable of performing such tasks.

4. Seek trained Foot Care Nurses, Chiropodists, or Podiatrists for proper foot care when unable to do this independently. There are many major differences between a pedicure and foot care. It’s important to know the difference and seek the right professional for the right job.

5. Check shoes for wear and tear, and ensure a proper fit.

I moved all my things in yesterday. Now to unpack, clean and set up over the next couple of days to prep for my first clients at Shelley’s Kneedles and Knots. Time has been flying by and I can’t believe it’s already time to open up. I can’t wait to get started 😊

This is a great option if:

This business has been a long time coming 💙

Between nursing, motherhood, and everything in between, it’s been a journey getting to this point.

Had a great day seeing some of my mobile clients yesterday 😊

A little behind-the-scenes update since I haven’t shared one in awhile!

These first few mobile appointments have been a great learning experience as I continue fine tuning my workflow, charting, booking, and mobile setup to make everything as smooth and efficient as possible for clients.

Some things I’ll be working on this week:
• Streamlining mobile charting and assessments
• Improving booking and payment flow during appointments
• Fine tuning intake forms to avoid repeated questions
• Organizing supplies and storage for my new clinic space

I’m so thankful for all the support so far. June is officially full, and I’ve now started a June cancellation/waitlist while booking into July appointments and remaining May mobile availability.

I’m so excited for these next few weeks and can’t wait to show everyone my space inside Shelley’s Needles and Knots soon!
