๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ Happy International Day of Friendship! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

Some of life's greatest friendships have four legs, a wagging tail, a gentle purr, or even a happy chirp.

Our pets are so much more than companionsโ€”they're our confidants, adventure buddies, comfort during difficult days, and enthusiastic greeters at the end of every day. The bond we share with them is built on trust, loyalty, and unconditional love, making every moment together truly special.

Today, we're celebrating the incredible friendships we have with our animals and the joy they bring to our lives.

Share a photo of your best furry (or feathered!) friend in the commentsโ€”we'd love to celebrate these special bonds with you! โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ“ข Grooming Update ๐Ÿพ

Our groomer is going away on holidays! During this time (August 6-17), we will not be scheduling any grooming appointments until she returns.

We know many of you are eager to book, and we truly appreciate your patience. Due to the anticipated high volume of appointment requests, please allow up to one week after her return for her to respond to messages and booking inquiries.

Thank you for your understanding and support while she enjoys a well-deserved break. We look forward to helping get your furry friends looking and feeling their best when she's back! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

๐ŸŽ†๐Ÿพ Fireworks and Pets: Planning Ahead Makes a Difference ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ†

While many people enjoy fireworks, our pets often experience them very differently. The loud, unpredictable noises can cause fear, anxiety, and panic in both dogs and cats. If your pet struggles during fireworks season, there are several ways to help:
๐Ÿ  **Create a safe space** Provide a quiet, comfortable area where your pet can retreat. Close windows, draw curtains, and use fans, white noise, or calming music to help mask outside sounds.
๐Ÿถ **Exercise before festivities begin** For dogs, a walk or play session earlier in the day can help reduce excess energy and promote relaxation later in the evening. ๐Ÿฆด **Offer enrichment** Food puzzles, lick mats, snuffle mats, or special treats can help provide a positive distraction.
๐Ÿšช**Keep pets indoors** Even pets that are normally comfortable outside can panic and attempt to escape when startled by fireworks. Ensure collars, tags, and microchip information are current.
๐Ÿ’Š **Talk to your veterinarian about medications** For some pets, training and environmental changes alone are not enough. Anti-anxiety medications can significantly improve welfare and help prevent panic. These medications are most effective when discussed and prescribed before fireworks season begins.
๐ŸŒฟ **Consider non-pharmaceutical supports** Products such as pheromone diffusers, anxiety wraps, calming music, and behaviour modification exercises may help some pets, especially when used as part of a larger management plan.
โš ๏ธ A common misconception is that if a pet "gets through" fireworks, they're coping well. In reality, repeated exposure while frightened can sometimes worsen fear over time. Every pet is different. If your dog or cat shows signs of stress during fireworks, speak with your veterinary team about creating a personalized plan to help them feel safer and more comfortable.
โค๏ธ A calmer pet is a happier pet.

๐Ÿพโค๏ธ Today is World Day Against Pet Abandonment โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Every pet deserves a lifetime of love, care, and commitment.

On World Day Against Pet Abandonment, we're reminding our community that bringing a pet into your family is a decision that should be made thoughtfully and responsibly. Whether you choose to adopt from a shelter or rescue, or purchase from a responsible, ethical preservation breeder, every pet deserves a home that is prepared for the lifelong commitment of pet ownership.

Responsible pet ownership starts before a pet ever comes home:
๐Ÿถ Research the breed or species to ensure it's a good fit for your lifestyle
๐Ÿฑ Choose a reputable rescue, shelter, or ethical breeder who prioritizes health, temperament, and lifelong support
๐Ÿ  Have a plan for your pet's care throughout all stages of life
โค๏ธ Spay and neuter when appropriate and follow your veterinarian's recommendations
๐Ÿค Support organizations and individuals working to improve animal welfare

Abandonment is often preventable through education, preparation, and responsible breeding and ownership practices. Together, we can help ensure that every pet has the chance to live a healthy, happy life with a family that is committed to them for the long haul.

PS: Pets featured in photos all have permanent loving homes.

๐Ÿ Canada Day Closure Notice ๐Ÿ

Canada Day is just around the corner!

Please note that our clinic will be closed on Wednesday, July 1st in observance of the holiday and will reopen with regular business hours on Thursday, July 2nd.

As many communities celebrate with fireworks and festivities, now is a great time to make sure your pet is prepared. Loud noises can be stressful for many dogs and cats, and medications or calming products often work best when planned for in advance.

๐Ÿพ If your pet has a history of anxiety around fireworks:
โœ”๏ธ Check that you have enough medication on hand
โœ”๏ธ Contact us before the holiday if a refill is needed
โœ”๏ธ Make sure identification tags and microchip information are up to date
โœ”๏ธ Create a safe, quiet space at home for your pet

๐Ÿš‘ If your pet experiences a medical emergency while we are closed, please contact Boreal Veterinary Centre for emergency care.

We hope you and your furry family members have a safe and happy Canada Day!
