Glimmers are small examples of joy, happiness or peace. Those little moments where you can feel yourself exhale. They’re often referred to at the opposite of a trigger and can help signal to your brain that it’s safe

Think of that first sip of a warm tea, finally completing a project you worked hard on, your pet sleeping realllllly adorably, a cozy blanket on a rainy day, any moment that brings you comfort can be a glimmer

Identifying these moments are important because it helps our brain feel more grounded and can help get us out of anxious spirals. I like to keep an album of these moments that I can look back on when I’m feeling a little too discombobulated so these photos are a little glimpse into some of the things that bring me peace

When you’re feeling dysregulated or low it can be really difficult to actually remember what things help ground you and let you feel more comfortable again💭🙇🏻‍♂️

Something that might help is creating a mental wellness “cheat sheet” that’s simple and quickly summarizes the things that work for you! ✏️🗒️

I’ve filled this one in with random suggestions but you can use whatever works best for you! You might even want to add more sections like a list of exercises you enjoy, songs you find soothing or uplifting, lists of comfort movies/shows. Your brain is uniquely your own and the tools that work best for it will be unique too 🧠🛠️

Your cheat sheet can be on a page in your journal, a random piece of scrap paper you keep on your fridge or a note in your phone’s notes app. Whatever will be the easiest for you to access and refer back to 📝☺️

The words dysregulated, overwhelmed and discombobulated have been coming up a lot in my clients lately and it seems like we’re all just feeling the weight of the world right now 💥🙇🏻

When you’re feeling off sometimes it might feel like the only answer is to run away and live on an island alone where no one can reach you 🏝️ or you might feel like now is the time to finally start that diet and workout plan you’ve been meaning to try and you know it will solve all your problems 🏃🏼‍♀️🥦 and yes, technically both of those options might work but only for the short term, eventually you’ll get lonely and bored on the island or you’ll burn yourself out trying to stay on top of a health regiment when you’re already exhausted

The real answer lies somewhere in the middle, finding a balance between getting away from the issue but also still putting time and energy into your wellness ⚖️ there is no specific routine that will work for everyone, it’s about what works for you!

Stick to the things you find comforting and easy, maybe the same meal every day or watching the show you’ve seen a million times. Make your world a little smaller where you can, reschedule plans, delay making that big decision. Let your routine be as simple as possible, letting your brain find safety in routine and giving you a chance to breath 🧠🧘🏽‍♀️❤️‍🩹

Sharing a bit of a hot take today! 🔥 Please keep in mind that this is just my opinion, not a statement of right/wrong, do what works best for you!

Gratitude journaling is something that we know comes with a lot of benefits and it makes sense, right? Spend some time thinking about good things and you’ll feel good! 📝😃 So what’s the issue?

My post today isn’t about whether gratitude journaling is good or bad, just about understanding the line between gratitude and avoidance. Being human means that we have things we can be thankful for but also things that just suck. Sometimes there is no silver lining, no positive side or thing to be grateful for, and that’s okay!

When we spend time trying to be grateful, without first learning how to be self compassionate, it starts to sound like avoidance. Spend time with a gratitude journal if that’s what works for you, they’re important and helpful, but don’t forget to allow space for the difficult things too ✏️❤️‍🩹
