COTTFN Community: Please keep conserving water through the weekend.

Good news first. Our Water Department got the treatment system back up and running around 5:00 AM this morning after working through the night. We are operational again.

There is still a part that needs to be replaced, and the water tower needs time to build back up after running low. For that reason, we are asking everyone to keep conserving water for the rest of this weekend.

What helps most right now: hold off on lawn watering and car washing, skip filling pools, run laundry and dishwashers only when full, and keep showers short. Small changes across a lot of households add up quickly.

Chi-miigwech to our Water Department who pulled an all-nighter to keep water flowing to our homes. And miigwech to everyone who cut back yesterday, it made a real difference.

Water Quality Notice: Elevated Sodium Levels

Recent testing of our community water has come back with sodium levels above the guideline set for people on sodium-restricted diets.

If you are on a sodium-restricted (low-salt) diet: you are advised not to drink the tap water at this time. Please use the water filling station at 641 Jubilee Rd. or bottled water, and follow up with your primary care provider about what's right for you.

For everyone else: the water is safe to drink. This is not a boil water advisory, and the water supply remains bacteriologically safe.

Sodium in drinking water is not considered harmful to healthy people. The guideline that has been exceeded is a lower, more protective one. It is set specifically so that community members managing their salt intake for health reasons can make informed decisions about what they drink.

Questions or concerns? Call the Chippewa Health Centre at 519-289-5641. Our staff are happy to talk it through with you.

Please share this with relatives and neighbours who may be managing their sodium, especially Elders and anyone living alone.

๐Ÿ’ง Community Notice โ€” Water Conservation Requested ๐Ÿ’ง

We're currently experiencing some trouble filling the water tower, and until it's resolved, we're asking everyone to help by conserving water where they can.

A few simple ways to pitch in:
โœ”๏ธ Check inside your home for leaks โ€” toilets, faucets, and appliances
โœ”๏ธ Inspect outdoor taps, hoses, and yard hydrants
โœ”๏ธ Cut back on non-essential water use for now

If your water pressure drops, or if you notice water pooling around your home, along the roads, or anywhere in the community, please let the Water Department know right away โ€” it may point to a leak that crews need to catch early.

Miigwech for your patience and support while our crews work to get things back to normal. ๐Ÿ™

๐ŸŸ UPDATE

ECCC has upgraded the Air Quality Warning from Yellow to Orange, indicating an increased risk for poor air quality.
_______________________________________________________________________

Air Quality Warning (Yellow)๐ŸŸก

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Yellow Air Quality Warning for London and Middlesex County beginning Wednesday, July 15, due to wildfire smoke. Poor air quality and reduced visibility are expected today and may continue throughout the weekend.

Wildfire smoke can irritate your eyes, nose, and throat and cause headaches or coughing. More serious symptoms, such as wheezing, chest pain, or shortness of breath, require immediate attention.

If you have symptoms or are at higher risk (older adults, young children, pregnant people, or those with heart or lung conditions), reduce time outdoors, monitor the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI), stay hydrated, and move indoors or to a public space with filtered air if needed. Check in on family, friends, and neighbours who may be more vulnerable.
