You were running around without pants.
I was saying: "Liam! Pants on. Now!!"

You disappeared for a few minutes and came back. You were smiling proudly and wearing pants.

It's so special that Police Patrol cars play Disney Songs, Parker's favourite, in an effort to locate him.

Police Use Disney Songs In Hopes it will Help Bring Missing Boy Parker Wells Home

Calgary police continue an extensive search for 11-year-old Parker, who disappeared from the Thorncliffe neighbourhood on Thursday. Parker is non-verbal and neurodivergent, leading Alberta to issue a rare Amber Alert exemption because of the unique circumstances of the case.

Investigators have reviewed approximately 50 hours of CCTV, residential security camera, and dashcam footage, while more than 300 police officers and 120 trained search volunteers have participated in the search. Clothing believed to belong to Parker was located a short time after he disappeared, and later CCTV footage showed him roughly five to six kilometres away.

In an effort to reach Parker, police have begun playing Disney songs from patrol vehicles in the search area because they know he enjoys Disney music. They hope the familiar sounds may encourage him to come out if he is hiding nearby. Authorities continue to follow new leads and are asking anyone with information, or relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact Calgary police immediately.

When we started this journey with Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay, (even before the official diagnoses) I identified four major areas where we desperately needed help for Liam:

1. Sleeping. (WHAT is sleep...😩🥹)
2. Eating. (Pleeeease just eat!! 🥹)
3. Speech. (A new word is a miracle 🥹)
4. Toilet training. (Liam was in diapers full
time until he was 5)

I can write a book about each one of these struggles...about success and failure. About two steps forward and three steps back. How we literally tried everything and how these four aspects in life still remain big challenges. How things can regress and change in an instant. How nothing in life is consistent and guaranteed.

When I look at a picture of you, taken nearly a year ago, I only see your knees.

Those knees. 🥹 In black and white. Exactly how I felt at that time. I am certain you felt it too Liam! Dull. Sad. Numb. Drained of any colour and happiness.

You and Sarah were working on ball skills. Her hands were guiding yours and she was showing you how to hold a hockey stick.

While I am looking at the photo, my eyes are focused and locked on one thing only. Your knees.

I remember how skinny you were. How you refused to eat anything. How I prayed for you to eat. A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G!!! How I couldn't fathom the idea of a GI tube in my super super busy boy's body. So many Autistic kids have GI tubes. Food is such a big struggle and challenge for Autistic people. 🥹 You stayed at 20kg for years. Your ribs and bones were so prominent. Your face was red and blue and purple.
Self inflicted.
You were so frustrated. Broken. Food was not your only frustration.

Your Mama was broken too.
I felt guilty for not "getting" it. I wanted to take away your pain so badly. I couldn't stop trying to find answers. I stayed up all night, doing research, doing my best to help you.

And now?

You are leaning against the tree. 10kg heavier. One shoe size bigger. Taller. Happier. A different boy. Looking more like a 9 year old boy than ever before!

Those knees...those cheeks...that smile.

(Liam's healthy food intake is still not what it should be. He drinks Pediasure and his diet is still very restricted. He prefers crunchy textures. He'll only eat salt and vinegar Pringles if he could get his way 😉Liam likes very bold and very bland food. Vinegar, pickles, plain toast with butter. Bacon. Fries. We are working on getting him to eat fruit and vegetables. He came such a long way and we keep on trying.
The most important thing is: Liam is eating again! 🙏🏻🎉)

Going through the car wash used to be a terrifying experience for Liam. Too much sounds and lights and movement.
Sensory overload.

Look at him now...🥹

Children with special needs make us perceive the ordinary and mundane things in Life as Miracles ⭐️🎉🙏🏻❤️

It is so humbling and rewarding to see Life through Liam's eyes.
