Yes, Liam is making progress and we are beyond grateful 🙏🏻🙏🏻 but we still have our challenges.

At least Liam gives me a reason to reorganize and tidy up my closets.
He forces my stagnant brain to come up with new, creative and innovative ideas to outlast and outplay him 🤪😉

Liam 5 years ago...I posted this on my personal FB page then. Before I started This is Liam.

"Someone with Autism taught me that love needs no words", I said.

So true. So very very true!

However, Liam has so many more words than then and surprises us with a new one randomly, when we least expect it.

Keep on hoping, keep on dreaming, keep on praying and keep on believing Mama!

Someone special sent me this Artist's details 🩷 Self regulating songs.

I immediately downloaded it for Liam and he loves to listen to it. His mother loves it too...especially the Breathing Song, which Liam plays on repeat a thousand times 🤪

Then:

The mother just breathes 🧘🏼‍♀️
And smiles
And listens to it again
And again

And breathes...😉🤣🎵

More than a year ago, I had to take Liam out of an amazing school.

His anxiety, self injury, lack of focus and self regulation, forced me to make drastic changes.

I had to drop all demands, I took him off all his medication and advocated for a complete reset for my boy. Things couldn't get any worse...for us as a family and for Liam: Physically and Emotionally.

I waited for months to get a special education spot for Liam with a wonderful online school. As part of their support, we have access to several educational apps.
We started right at the beginning of Reading Eggs (Literacy) and Mathseeds (Math).

I cannot express enough how much this helps Liam. (Along with the life changing therapies from his therapists and behavioural consultant, BI's and Respite Team.)

Liam turns 10 this year. At last, he is ready to learn. It's still chaos at times , let's be real!! 🤪🤦‍♀️ (Posts to follow)

But...he can focus...at times.

There's a quote that says something like, trying to teach a child who is not ready to learn, is like throwing marshmallows to a child and expecting him to eat.

Being self regulated means EVERYTHING.

Liam is eating a marshmallow here and there...
