About bloody time!

For years, Iโ€™ve been explaining to patients โ€” often while getting very puzzled looks โ€” that they have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) despite not actually having cystic ovaries.

Thatโ€™s because the defining feature of PCOS isnโ€™t, strangely enough, ovarian cysts.
PCOS is a complex hormone and metabolic condition that affects the whole body and may โ€” or may not โ€” involve cysts on the ovaries.

Now medicine has finally caught up with what many of us have known for years.

The new name? Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS).

A far more accurate name that recognizes the complexity of the condition.
