🌡️ Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially for people at higher risk of heat illness or those who live alone. A little preparation can help keep you and your loved ones safe.

Prepare your home:
Identify the coolest area of your home and have a plan to use it during extreme heat.

Consider air conditioning, thermal curtains or window coverings, and an indoor thermometer.

Check whether you qualify for free air conditioning programs, such as those offered by BC Hydro.

Stay informed and connected:
Sign up for heat alerts through apps such as WeatherCAN.

Learn the signs and symptoms of heat illness and what to do if someone becomes unwell.

If you live alone or are at higher risk, arrange for someone nearby to check in on you during extreme heat.

Know where to cool down:
Find cooling centres and other cool spaces near you, such as community centres, libraries, or other public facilities. EmergencyMapBC can help you locate cooling and misting locations across B.C.

Your feedback will help inform future discussions and patient education. The survey takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete.

Fraser Northwest Division of Family Practice, a local non-profit organization, has partnered with Spectrum Dermatology to bring faster access to skin health assessments for residents of the Tri-Cities and New Westminster.
