Only if every mother truly embodied, demonstrated, and communicated this message to her son would there be far less misogyny, objectification, hatred and aggression toward women. Instead, many men unconsciously and sometimes consciously direct toward the women they meet the unresolved wounds, neglect, and abuse they first experienced from the original woman in their lives—their mother, who was meant to love them unconditionally. The very foundation of their relationships becomes rooted in the need to hurt another woman in order to regulate their own inner pain and shame. In doing so, many come to believe that if they dominate, subjugate, torment, and torture a woman, they will never again have to feel helpless, unloved, or powerless. And when they are not in an intimate relationship, they often direct that same venom and hatred toward other women who trigger those wounds.
This pattern will continue unless women first undertake deep healing and honestly look within themselves before bringing children into the world, so they do not pass their own unresolved trauma and generational wounds on to their sons and daughters. Equally, men must also be willing to face and heal their own wounds and the shame they so often hide behind toughness, domination, and the abuse of other human beings. Instead of escaping from their pain or using women as emotional punching bags, they must turn inward, confront their wounds, grieve them, and heal them, so they no longer attack, punish, and abuse women for the neglect, abuse, and pain they first experienced at the hands of their own mothers.
