Mentorship & Early Confidence

The first mentor you choose matters more than you think.

Ask prospective employers:
• Who will mentor me?
• How much clinical experience do they have?
• Will they teach me clinical reasoning, not just procedures?

Your first job is where you build foundational skills and confidence. The right mentor helps you understand the why behind what you do and accelerates your growth.

Confidence compounds.
Insecurity compounds too.

Choose mentorship.
Choose growth.
Choose a place where experienced OTs invest in you.
Choose Mindful OT.

It looks like a plank.

For some kids, it's one of the hardest things they'll do all week.

When the upper and lower body aren't connected — when the left and right sides aren't communicating — something as "simple" as holding a plank takes everything they have.

We're not just building core strength.
We're building the foundation for coordination, focus, handwriting, and emotional regulation.

We're teaching the brain and body to work together — because for some neurodivergent kids, that connection doesn't come automatically.

Every shaking arm. Every "I want to stop."
That's integration happening in real time.

It's never just a plank. 💙

Watch closely. This is what sensory aversion actually looks like. 🧴

It doesn't always look like a meltdown. It doesn't always look like anything — to everyone else in the store, he just seemed a little hesitant. A little difficult to read.

But here's what was really happening.
His nervous system was working overtime just to be there.
The scent hit first.
Then the texture.
Then the expectation to hold it, wait, and smile.

Quietly overwhelmed — holding it together the best way he knew how.

Most people didn't even notice. And that's exactly the problem.
Sensory aversion isn't always loud. Sometimes it's the teen who flinches at a texture. Who can't explain why. Who gets written off as different before anyone thinks to look closer.

That's not a behaviour problem. That's sensory processing differences.

And with the right support, he will learn how to navigate different textures, scents, and sensations — in a way that fits his brain and his body. 💛
If you recognized your teen just now — you are not alone.

👉 Follow along for more on what's really happening beneath the behaviour.

You walk into our clinic and see bubbles. We see two of the most important things we do.

1. Feelings check-in — because they can't regulate what they can't name.
2. Bubbles — because engagement is the door to everything else.

Nothing here is random. Everything has a reason.

You've seen these before.

A bingo dabber doesn't look like much.

But here's what's actually happening:

Crayons require too much pressure — the hands tire out before the skill gets trained. Markers drag and exhaust little fingers before they even finish the page.

A bingo dabber? Short. Quick. Gets the job done.

And while their hands stay fresh — their brain is working hard.

Scanning the page. Identifying shapes. Moving left to right. Top to bottom.

Every dot is building the foundation for reading. 📖

That's OT. 💙

It looks like fidgets and a big ball. It's actually a full nervous system reset.

Fidgets — because a regulated body is a ready brain.
Medicine ball — because some kids need to feel where their body ends before they can calm down.

This is what OT looks like in action.

We're growing. 🌱

Mindful OT Services is hiring a Registered Occupational Therapist to join our paediatric team in Newmarket, Ontario.

This is a part-time position (2 days/week) with a clear path to full-time by September 2026 — and a supported ramp-up period where you build your own fresh caseload from day one.

We are a small, specialized clinic. We work with neurodivergent children and youth across sensory processing, gross motor development, primitive reflex integration, adolescent life skills, and more. Our OTs don't just do sessions — they grow into leaders.

What we offer:
✔ $60–$80/hour, employee position
✔ Evenings & weekends schedule (no commute stress, better client attendance)
✔ Mentorship from a founder-clinician with deep paediatric expertise
✔ Specialty clinical exposure most clinics can't offer
✔ Full benefits, PD scholarship funding, and group program bonuses upon full-time transition

This is not the right role for everyone. It is the right role for an OT who is ready to invest in something — and have that investment returned.
