Founded in 2021, Mindful OT Kids’ Clinic is an award-winning, Occupational Therapist-owned and operated clinic in Newmarket, Ontario, led by a clinician with over 20 years of experience. We work with babies, toddlers and school age kids, including kids with Autism on self regulation, fine and gross motor skills, visual motor skills, feeding, sensory integration and primitive reflex integration. Our teen programs include social-emotional learning, handwriting, executive function (planning & problem solving), and art therapy. Our adult therapy programs include services for complex disabilities including acquired/traumatic brain injuries, orthopaedic injuries, chronic pain, amputation, and mental health.

Art. Nature. Community. A place for our kids to belong. 🍂

There’s something really special about seeing the new Mulock Park come to life — not just as a beautiful public space, but as a place where Newmarket families can spend time together, explore, learn and feel connected to their community.

It was wonderful to gather here to celebrate Newmarket-raised artist Brendan Fernandes and the unveiling of Calling Community — a piece that feels perfectly at home in a park designed to bring people together.

For parents, spaces like this matter. Our kids need places where they can get outside, experience art and nature, learn about the community they call home, and simply have a place to go and be together.

With art woven into the landscape, the historic Mulock House nearby, and space for families and neighbours to gather, Mulock Park is becoming another resource for parents looking for meaningful places to take their kids right here in Newmarket.

Celebrating Our Centennial Together — 100 Years of Occupational Therapy in Canada 🇨🇦
1926–2026. One hundred years of occupational therapy in Canada.

Looking through the history of our profession is a reminder of just how much can change in a century.
From Canada’s first occupational therapy graduates in 1928, to OTs advocating for the profession during the Depression, serving during wartime, establishing university programs across the country, developing distinctly Canadian models of practice, creating the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), advancing education and certification, and continually expanding where and how occupational therapists practise — our profession has continued to evolve.
And behind every milestone were occupational therapists who were willing to build something that didn’t exist yet.

They advocated.
They taught.
They questioned.
They created programs.
They opened new areas of practice.
They responded to what people and communities needed.

That part of our history really resonates with me.

What will occupational therapy become over the next 100 years?

Our profession will continue to change. Technology will change. Healthcare will change. The needs of our communities will change. But at the centre of occupational therapy remains something remarkably human: helping people participate in the lives they want and need to live.

I’m honoured to be joining Heather Gillespie, Jennifer Lee and Richard Kellowan for CAOT’s OT Month Forum: Celebrating our occupational therapy identity: The next 100 years.
