🏆❤️ A championship moment patients will never forget.

Hometown NHL star and Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Sean Walker brought the Stanley Cup to Southlake, creating an unforgettable day for children and families in the Paediatric Oncology Clinic and Paediatrics Unit.

For one special afternoon, treatments and appointments took a back seat to smiles, laughter, and memories with hockey's greatest trophy.

Thank you, Sean, your family, the Carolina Hurricanes, Hockey Hall of Fame Keeper of the Cup, and the NHL for sharing this incredible experience with us and reminding us all of the power of hope and kindness.

Leading edge care starts with the people who provide it—highly skilled physicians and healthcare professionals with a strong medical education.

Yesterday, the Government of Ontario announced a $55.8 million investment to support the planning and operations of the new York University School of Medicine. As a proud partner in establishing the new medical school, Southlake was honoured to join York University and our fellow hospital partners to celebrate this exciting milestone.

Ontario’s investment will help educate and train more physicians closer to home, strengthening the healthcare workforce needed to care for some of Ontario’s fastest growing and aging communities.

Our new therapeutic patio offers patients in our Adult Inpatient Mental Health Program a safe outdoor space to connect with nature, support their recovery and find moments of peace on their healing journey.

Congratulations to Renee Bakuska, Manager, Community Programs at Southlake Health, on receiving the Canadian College of Health Leaders' recognition in Delivering Value-based Healthcare!

This national award recognizes Renee's leadership in advancing Southlake@home Plus, an innovative program that brings hospital-level care into patients' homes. Supporting seniors with complex needs through personalized in-home care, caregiver respite and safety-focused monitoring, the program is helping people recover where they are most comfortable while reducing unnecessary hospital visits.

Since 2019, more than 3,500 patients have received care through Southlake@home and Southlake@home Plus, improving access to care and helping more people maintain their independence.

This recognition reflects Southlake's commitment to delivering leading edge care beyond hospital walls as we continue building our Distributed Health Network.

Canadian first at Southlake Health!

Southlake has become the first hospital in Canada to perform a Pullback Pressure Gradient (PPG) analysis of a coronary vessel using advanced technology by Abbott.

Led by Dr. Steven Miner and our Regional Cardiac Program, this analysis helps physicians better understand coronary artery disease and determine the most appropriate treatment for each patient, supporting more precise, personalized heart care.

This milestone reflects Southlake's continued commitment to delivering leading edge cardiac care, close to home.

It was wonderful to see so many community members come out to learn more about Southlake Health's vision for a Distributed Health Network and plans for a new acute care hospital in East Gwillimbury. Throughout the evening, attendees explored informational displays, connected with members of the Southlake team, asked thoughtful questions, and shared valuable feedback that will help shape the future of health care in our region.

Sometimes life has other plans. After spending two years saving his own money for the trip of a lifetime, Filemon travelled from Newfoundland to Toronto with his dad to attend a FIFA World Cup match and hopefully see his favourite player, Cristiano Ronaldo. Instead, a medical emergency brought him to Southlake, where he required emergency surgery.

Despite having to miss the match, Filemon and his dad selflessly gifted their tickets to another father and son so another family could enjoy the experience.

Inspired by his kindness, nurses Victoria and Emily transformed the inpatient paediatrics playroom into a World Cup fan zone, while members of Southlake's leadership team surprised him with a Portugal jersey, a limited-edition Cristiano Ronaldo LEGO set, and more.

Thank you, Filemon, for reminding us what resilience and generosity look like. We're all cheering for your recovery!
