I thought i would let my American friends know about our Canadian universal healthcare system Thursday august 13 i took an awful fall on my kitchen floor, i fell on my left side I went to bed On Friday august 14 i went to see my doctor to see if i had broken a rib. She said it’s too late to go to X-ray clinic ill give you a requisition for x ray at the hospital I drove to the emergency department at 12 pm i handed in my health card registered and was sent to X Ray room I waited about 10 minutes had the xrays and was sent to a room to meet the doctor who would explain the x rays Dr Silverstein saw me and explained the z rays no broken bones all is well i left the hospital parking was $20 and was home at 3,pm with a prescription for Tylenol 3 for pain total cost $20 for parking My family doctor is a muslim woman from India who took her training in Dublin Ireland The emergency doctor is Jewish trained in Toronto I knew him from past trips to emergency He says he likes Emergency because he sees every kind of trauma Thats universal healthcare no copay not scared my plan wont cover this In the United States without insurance id be taking out a second mortgage or worse I wouldn’t have seen a doctor
