June is PTSD/PTSI Awareness Month
June is dedicated to increasing awareness, understanding, and support for those living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI).
Trauma does not affect everyone in the same way. Two people can experience the same event and have very different responses. PTSD/PTSI can develop after exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury, violence, or other deeply distressing experiences. While often associated with military personnel, veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, and public safety professionals, trauma can impact anyone.
PTSD/PTSI also affects families. Loved ones may experience secondary or vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, feelings of helplessness, and the challenges that come with supporting someone who is struggling.
Most importantly, there is no shame in living with PTSD/PTSI. It is not a sign of weakness. It is an injury, not a character flaw. Recovery is possible, and support is available.
At Healing Connections Psychotherapy, this message is deeply personal. Miranda knows firsthand what it is like to live with a post-traumatic stress injury and understands both the challenges and the hope that can exist on the healing journey. She also knows that with the right support, tools, and treatment, it is possible to move forward and reclaim your life.
For Miranda, EMDR therapy became a significant part of her own healing journey. Experiencing its impact personally helped shape her passion for supporting others who are navigating the effects of trauma. While every person’s path to healing is unique, recovery is possible. Alongside EMDR, yoga and inversion work helped me rebuild trust in my body, restore balance, and experience moments of peace again.
This month, let’s continue the conversation, reduce stigma, and remind those who are struggling that they are not alone. Seeking help is a sign of courage, not weakness.
If you or someone you care about is living with the effects of trauma, reach out. You do not have to carry it alone.
