It was a great day of golf at Osprey over the weekend for my hubby Ian Martyn, my dad Harry Sloan, my uncle Sean Poeta & his brother Mike Poeta! Martyn Funeral Home sponsored a hole at the 13th annual North Bay Mazda NICU charity golf tournament! ⛳️

$65,000 was raised this year for a new Central Monitoring System at the NICU at North Bay Regional Health Centre - helping our healthcare teams better monitor vital signs and respond quickly for our tiniest patients!

A special shout out to my sister & brother-in-law Tracy Richardson-Sloan & Geoff Richardson and all of the other organizers for another successful year!! ❤️

After 42 years of dedicated service to the families of North Bay and surrounding area, we would like to send a huge Congratulations to our friend and colleague, Mac Bain, on his much anticipated and well deserved retirement!
Mac has been a steady and dependable presence at Martyn Funeral Home for decades- someone families could count on, and someone we could always rely on behind the scenes. He approached his work with professionalism and care, but also had a way of keeping things light with his sense of humour when it was needed most.
Mac’s good nature, strong work ethic, and quiet dedication never went unnoticed. He leaves some very big shoes to fill, and he will be greatly missed by all of us!
Now it’s time to trade in the suits, pressed shirts, and polished shoes. No more 3 a.m. calls- just well-earned rest, relaxation, and time to enjoy life at a different pace.
Congratulations, Mac, and THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!! ❤️❤️ (Ian & Jody)

Before he officially signs off, Mac (like the hamburger) wanted to leave us with a few words:

After 42 years, the time has come for me to step away from Martyn Funeral Home and begin a new chapter in retirement.

It is difficult to put into words what these years have meant to me. I want to sincerely thank the Martyn family for their patience, mentorship, friendship, and for trusting me to serve families in my own way, even allowing me to use a little humour when it was needed most. That trust shaped the funeral director and the person I became.

To my colleagues, past and present, thank you for your mentorship, teamwork, and unwavering support over the decades. I was fortunate to work alongside people who cared deeply about this profession and about one another.

To my many contacts and professional connections in North Bay and across the province, thank you. Your cooperation, guidance, and support made it easier for me to help families, and I deeply appreciate it.

Most importantly, I want to thank the thousands of families who allowed me to walk beside them during some of life’s most difficult moments. It has been a true privilege to serve you. I hope that, in some small way, I was able to bring comfort, guidance, and perhaps even a moment of peace when it was needed.

And to my family, thank you for your patience and understanding through the many missed or interrupted meals, celebrations, holidays, and private moments that come with a life in funeral service. Your support made it possible for me to serve others, and I am forever grateful.

Funeral service has never just been a career to me; it has been an honour.

With gratitude, Mac
