I've been holding off on writing this post because it feels so unreal to type. We've lost a great friend, and our hearts are hurting really bad.
Mac was more than just a co-worker at the funeral home, he was like sunshine. He had a way of lighting up every room that he was in. I'll miss the easy (boisterous) laughter at the silly things that made hard days a little lighter. He had such a generous, open heart. You always knew where you stood with Mac, and he'd do anything for you.
Not that he didn't have bad moments, because we all do. It isn't an easy job.
Over 45 years of friendship with Ian, and over 30 years with me. Good times and hard times. We were family. We were a team. This isn't the way his story was meant to end, but I guess we're supposed to know this better than most. We don't always get to choose. Mac never seemed to let much get to him. He loved his people hard, and he enjoyed his one big life. Please hold his family in your prayers, and try not to take life too seriously. Mac certainly shines on! ✨️

Ian and I would like to wish you a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving. 🍂🦃
This year, we're especially mindful of the many blessings in our lives, while keeping those in our work family who are facing health challenges close in our hearts and prayers.

Just a reminder.

What could we say instead?

“I’m so sorry. I wish this hadn’t happened.”

“I don’t know what to say, but I’m here.”

“I’ve been thinking about you.”

“I miss (say their name), too.”

“I was thinking about the time (say their name)…” - sharing a genuine memory can be incredibly meaningful.

“Tell me about them.”

“How are you doing today?” (rather than expecting an answer to the enormous question, “How are you?”)

“You don’t have to be strong with me.”

“Whatever you’re feeling today is okay.”

And sometimes, nothing at all. Sit beside them, hug them if appropriate, let them cry, and listen. We have 2 ears and one mouth, so listen more than you speak. ❤️

As the long weekend winds down and lunch bags get packed for tomorrow, we hope you’re able to enjoy one last slow summer day with the people you love.

Wishing all the students, families and teachers in our community a safe and happy start to the new school year! 🍎📚

And as the school buses return to our roads tomorrow, let’s remember Adam. ❤️
Slow down, stay alert, and always stop for the flashing red lights! A few extra moments of patience can help keep our kids safe.
