Most people think a little blood when brushing or flossing is normal. It isn’t.

Bleeding gums are most often a sign of gingivitis—early gum inflammation caused by plaque buildup along the gumline. It can also be influenced by brushing too hard, hormonal changes, certain medications, or vitamin deficiencies.

The good news? Gingivitis is often completely reversible with good home care and professional treatment.

✅ Brush gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush
✅ Floss every day (bleeding at first is often a sign your gums need more attention, not less)
✅ If your gums continue to bleed for more than two weeks, schedule a dental examination.

Ignoring bleeding gums can allow gingivitis to progress to periodontitis, a more advanced form of gum disease that is much more difficult to treat.

Your gums are trying to tell you something—don’t ignore the message.

At Ardent Dental, digital dentistry is helping us make treatment more precise, comfortable, and predictable than ever before. 🦷

With our in-office 3D printing technology, we can create:
• Nightguards
• Retainers
• Surgical guides for implant placement
• Dental models
• Temporary crowns
• Smile simulations and treatment designs

For patients, this often means:
✔️ Better comfort
✔️ Faster turnaround times
✔️ More precise fit and planning
✔️ More predictable esthetic and functional results

3D printing also allows us to plan treatments in greater detail before we even begin — combining modern technology with the human side of dentistry to deliver care that is thoughtful, personalized, and efficient.

Dentistry continues to evolve at an incredible pace, and we love staying current with the latest advances in both the art and science of dental care.

Water flosser or traditional floss — which is better? 🦷

The truth is: the “best” option is usually the one you’ll actually use consistently.

Traditional floss is still one of the most effective ways to clean between teeth and along the gumline. But water flossers can be a great addition, especially for people with braces, bridges, implants, or anyone who finds regular floss difficult to use.

Water flossers may also help reduce gum inflammation and bleeding by reaching areas that are harder to clean.

Our advice? You don’t necessarily have to choose one over the other. For many patients, a combination works really well.

What matters most is cleaning between your teeth every day — because plaque starts building up within about 24 hours.

If you’re unsure which option fits your needs best, ask your hygienist or dentist at your next visit. Oral care is never one-size-fits-all. ✨

A big thank you to physiotherapist Reza Ghannadan from QubeCore Sports & Rehab for spending time with our team and leading a workshop on posture, ergonomics, and movement in dentistry.

Dentistry can be physically demanding work, and small habits in posture and positioning can make a huge difference over time — not only for comfort, but for long-term health and longevity in our profession.

We appreciate Reza sharing practical advice, hands-on guidance, and simple strategies our team can incorporate into everyday clinical life.

Taking care of people starts with taking care of the people providing the care. 🖤

Worried about dental X-rays for your child? 😬 You’re not overreacting, but the risk is very low.

A lot of parents hear “radiation” and immediately tense up. That makes sense. When it’s your kid, even routine dental care can feel like a bigger decision.

Here’s the part that helps: dental X-rays use very small amounts of radiation. In many cases, it’s similar to just a few days of natural background radiation we all get from everyday life.

✦ Modern imaging in pediatric dentistry is built to keep exposure as low as possible.
A dentist doesn’t take X-rays “just because.”
They’re recommended when there’s a real reason, based on your child’s age, size, and what needs to be checked.

What can they catch?
Cavities between teeth, infections, jaw development concerns, injured roots, or teeth that aren’t coming in the way they should. A lot of that stays hidden without imaging.

That’s really the tradeoff:
• very low radiation
• a much better chance of finding problems early

And early detection often means simpler treatment, less discomfort, and clearer decisions for your child’s dental care.

If you’re unsure, ask questions. Honestly, you should.
What is this X-ray checking for?
Why now?
What happens if we wait?
