Keeping Horses & Dogs Cool During the Heat ☀️

As temperatures rise, our animals feel the heat too! Whether you’re heading to the barn, the trail, or simply enjoying time outside with your dog, a few simple precautions can make a big difference. 🐴🐶

✔️ Provide constant access to fresh, cool water
✔️ Offer shade and avoid prolonged time in direct sun
✔️ Exercise during the cooler morning or evening hours
✔️ Hose horses down and scrape excess water off so they can cool efficiently
✔️ Use fans or good airflow in stalls and kennels
✔️ Watch for signs of overheating: excessive panting, lethargy, weakness, increased heart rate, or reluctance to move

Remember: hot pavement can burn paws, and humid days can make cooling much harder for both horses and dogs.

This is a before and after video on a horse that appeared to have discomfort throughout her withers. This could be due to tension or tightness in the shoulder or back. In the first video you can see that she shakes her withers as if there is a fly but continues to do this while I palpate.
