You might notice this morning that our new sign is up! And with it, that darn 859 number that took us 4 and a half months to acquire. We're still keeping our old number on deck while we change all our correspondence to the new number.

Thanks to Blain Buchanan Signs for the lovely new sign! We hope this stops tourists from walking into our lobby and declaring they want to withdraw money from Scotiabank 😂

UPDATE: we found them! Thanks to everyone who gave us leads.

I once again have a question for the people of O'Leary! A couple of weeks ago we had a heavy rain which caused a tiny leak in our roof in one spot. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea who replaced the roof on this building last. I'm not looking for recommendations of roofing companies, I'm wondering if anyone who worked here, or has insider info, knows which contractor did it.
I've made several attempts to contact the previous owners of the building but they refuse to give an answer 🫠
I'd appreciate any leads!

Today we want to talk about buying local and buying Canadian 🇨🇦

As a small, Islander-owned business, it matters to us that we use as many local vendors as possible. A few little practice updates:
We will be closed this Monday, August 3 to give our staff a break. It's been a busy first few weeks!

We are now booking into the middle of September, and we've had a few people who have emailed or called us for an appointment whom we've been unable to reach. If you've contacted us but not been given an appointment, please call us during business hours or check your junk mail.

There is going to be construction on Royal Avenue possibly starting next week, so please be cautious around this area. You will still be able to enter our parking lot from Main Street.

We've been asked a couple of times if glasses can be ordered with outside prescriptions and our answer is yes! You can come look at glasses without an appointment, no matter where you got your eyes checked, as long as you have a valid prescription.

Most people know we prescribe glasses and contact lenses, but did you know we also see eye emergencies?

We can:

Remove metal (and other substances) from eyes.
Prescribe antibiotics for eye infections.
Prescribe antihistamines for allergies.
Examine your eye if it's been scratched by a cat, hit with a branch, shot with a nerf dart, splashed with windex, or any manner of mishap.

We keep same-day appointments open for eye emergencies, so a call to us might save you 12 hours at the ER.

2 spots left, give us a shout to book!

This is something I've always wanted to do, and after a lot of thinking and planning and consulting, I'm excited to offer our very first sensory-friendly day. On Tuesday, August 18, we are going to make a few changes to the office. My hope is that it makes the office more hospitable for anyone, kids or adults, that would like a low-stress, low noise eye exam. I've read a lot of literature from Autism Speaks, the PTSD Association of Canada, OCD Canada, and Brain Injury Canada on how to make our office as comfortable as possible for those with sensory issues.

Here's how this day will look a little different:
We're going to turn a lot of our lights off and let the natural light do its thing. We are going to turn off any background music and turn our phone ringers as low as they will go. We are offering longer appointment times in case you or your child need a little break, walk or snack partway through. We're also going to set up a side room as a little extra waiting room for some privacy. The staff and I are going to be wearing regular clothes instead of scrubs, because I think sometimes scrubs can feel intimidating.

If you would like to book yourself, your parent, or your child in one of these appointment slots, please contact us and let us know you want to be booked on the sensory-friendly day. You do not need to give us any justification for why you'd like a sensory-friendly appointment. If there is any extra accommodation that we could make, or anything you'd like us to know before the appointment, please be sure to tell us.

If this one goes well we hope to have more in the future! We are committed to being as accessible as possible, and part of that is accommodating people of all abilities.
