Paterson Wellness

Paterson Wellness Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist. Supporting people who are ready for their life to change in a meaningful way. Welcome!

Specializing in stress, anxiety, and workplace issues. Free consult / on-line sessions available. I’m Judith Paterson, a registered social worker and psychotherapist dedicated to guiding individuals toward balance, confidence, and calm. My professional journey has been unique. After spending a significant portion of my career as a business leader, I transitioned into the field of mental wellness, driven by a passion for helping others navigate their personal and professional challenges. As a certified clinical ADHD services provider, I specialize in supporting clients living with adult ADHD. Additionally, my background as a business leader enables me to effectively assist clients experiencing workplace issues. This combination of expertise provides me with a unique perspective on both ADHD and workplace dynamics, allowing me to address the specific challenges in each area effectively. I employ a light-hearted and collaborative approach to therapy, utilizing techniques from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and structured problem-solving. My goal is to support clients in enhancing their mental wellness and creating meaningful, fulfilling lives. I offer online counseling services to clients across Ontario, making support accessible no matter where you are. I’m here to help you find solutions and achieve your goals.

Ever notice how a dull meeting can feel endless, while a vacation flies by, only to feel long once you're home looking back on it? That's not your imagination. The clock on the wall and the clock in your head are two different things.

In my latest blog post, I dig into the psychology of time: why our sense of it stretches and shrinks depending on fear, boredom, or absorption, and why most of us also have a habitual "home base" in the past, present, or future that quietly shapes our mood and decisions.

I also share a free one-minute assessment if you're curious where your own habits sit.

It’s been 4 years since I opened my private practice! That seems hard to believe for me. In some ways it seems like just yesterday and in some ways it feels like I’ve been doing this for my whole career. I can’t picture myself doing anything else. I didn’t realize how many amazing people I’d meet along the way - both professionally and clients. Every day I meet the most interesting, skilled, impressive people. And for all of them I am very thankful.

I work with people who are navigating something difficult at work. That might be ongoing stress or burnout, anxiety that shows up in meetings or high-stakes conversations, a challenging relationship with a manager or a team, feeling like an imposter, or an event like a performance review, career change, promotion, or job loss.

Sometimes it's feeling stuck in a career that doesn't feel quite right anymore. Work takes up a large part of our lives and shapes how we see ourselves. When it becomes a source of struggle, the effects spill into our personal lives, our relationships, and our sense of who we are.

My approach is warm and practical. We'll look at how your mind responds under pressure, identify the patterns getting in the way, and develop concrete skills for navigating difficult thoughts, feelings, and situations so you can move forward with more confidence and ease.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years in business leadership. I understand the challenges and pressures in the workplace because I've experienced them myself. Many clients tell me that they were hesitant about booking an appointment and surprised by how natural and easy it felt to talk.

One conversation can make a difference. I hope you get in touch.

Do you ever get to the end of a busy day and still feel like you didn't do enough, even though you were going non-stop? I think most of us carry a quiet belief that if we could just get through the to-do list, we would finally feel caught up. The truth is, that list is never really finished. In my latest blog post, I get into why that pressure builds in the first place, and I share a few small practices that have helped me and my clients feel less behind, including one of my favourites, planning your day with a minimum and a maximum instead of one fixed target.

See post here:

I think most of us feel that if we could only just get through our to-do list we would finally feel caught up. We write the list. We work on the list. We cross things off (maybe some of us even add things we’ve already done so that we can cross them off). And somehow, by the end of the day, the li...

A problem solving session is dedicated time and structure to work through a specific challenge. This 90-minute one-time session draws on Problem-Solving Therapy, an evidence-based approach that helps you move from feeling stuck to having a clear, practical plan.

Before the session, you'll receive a short form to help you organize your thoughts and make the most of our time together. During the session, we'll define the problem clearly, explore your options, and develop a realistic plan of action that fits your life.

You'll leave with a written summary of everything we worked through and a concrete set of next steps — so you walk away with more than just clarity, you walk away with a plan.

This story of the Mexican fisherman is a reminder not to give up enjoying and being present in your life today in order to chase something you deem to be better in the future.

This is one of my favorite stories. It's about an American businessman and a Mexican fisherman.A lot of people want to make more money so they can live a bet...

Pleased to share that I’ve recently joined the WSIB Mental Health Program of Care provider network, a joint initiative through Trillium Health Partners and WSIB.

This program supports Ontario workers who have experienced a workplace injury or a traumatic event and are navigating the mental health impacts that often follow — including anxiety, depression, and adjustment difficulties.

I’m glad to be able to extend my workplace mental health work into this area.

If you or someone you know has been injured at work and is looking for support, feel free to reach out.
