kinda chic to protect your mental health quietly.

there’s no aesthetic to any of this.

saying no without the apology paragraph. asking for help while it’s still small enough to be called *help* and not a crisis.

catching the thought at 2am, naming it, and putting it down instead of following it for three hours.

doing the internal work in a therapist’s office on a Tuesday when no one knows you’re there.

not caring what people think isn’t arrogance — it’s what happens when you stop outsourcing your nervous system to other people’s approval.

and letting someone be wrong about you might be the hardest one on the list. the urge to explain, to correct the record, to make sure she knows what actually happened — that’s not healing, that’s the anxiety wearing a good outfit.

so let it go unexplained. say the no. try the new thing badly. sit with the people who leave you fuller than they found you.

none of this looks impressive. all of it is healing and taking care of your mental health 🤍

save this for the week you need it. share it with someone who’s been quietly holding a lot.

Some things don’t fit into a session.

These are the ones I’d say over tea — notes closed, nothing being written down, no one keeping time.

Hi, I’m Areeba 🙏🏽 A clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist, and someone who has spent enough years listening to know that the most useful sentences are rarely the clinical ones.

Which one did you need today? ☕️

A gentle note: this is reflection, not therapy. Nothing here replaces working with someone who knows your full story, and reading a post isn’t the same as being in the room. If one of these landed harder than expected, that’s worth bringing to someone who can hold it with you. 🤍

Just putting this out there because it comes up so often in sessions 🫶🏼🫠 alot of advice on the internet is premised in avoidance rather than actually working on building skills that allow one to have difficult conversations in a healthy manner, or problem solve without running away. Thats the true difference between tiktok or IG or chatgpt therapy and what happens in the therapy room. 🙏🏽

Comment with a ❤️ if you want to see what would actually be helpful advice instead of the catchy one liners ❤️
