Like a pebble dropped in a pond, Marie-Pascale Beaulieu’s career in community pharmacy steadily ripples outward as she strives to do more for pharmacists in her home province of Quebec and across Canada. In 2023, she became the Director of Professional Affairs at the Association québécoise des pharmaciens propriétaires (AQPP), the trade association representing all pharmacy owners in Quebec. In June 2025, she broadened her reach by joining the Board of Directors for the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy.

Jeff Taylor was recently speaking with a patient who mentioned her 92-year-old mother was taking 325 mg of acetylsalicylic acid daily for sedation.

Taylor, a Professor at the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, University of Saskatchewan, conducted research to better quantify the prevalence, symptom burden and health-related behaviors surrounding 31 minor ailments (or common conditions) in older adults. Funded by CFP’s Innovation Fund in 2024, the completed study was published in the Journal of Primary Care & Community Health in December 2025.

Minor ailments are anything but minor. The study found that older adults experienced an average of 6.2 symptoms over a two-week period.

Results from CFP-funded research on medication optimization for heart-failure patients has captured the attention of the B.C. government.

The pilot randomized control trial (RCT), led by Ricky Turgeon and his research team at the University of British Columbia and funded by CFP’s Innovation Fund, found that even when more than 90% of patients were on guideline-recommended therapies, most were not at target doses.

For longtime Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy supporter Mike Jaczko, giving back to the profession consists of contributing time and money.

Along with a team of educators and experts he helped CFP develop Pharmacy Management in Canada, the country’s only textbook dedicated to pharmacy management, with content written and reviewed by more than 100 experts nationwide.

For longtime Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy supporter Mike Jaczko, giving back to the profession has never been just about writing a cheque.

When pharmacists think about improving medication adherence, they often focus on email reminders, follow-up calls and patient counselling. But for Sarah Kozusko, pharmacist and co-owner of Queen City Wellness Pharmacy in Regina, Saskatchewan, the answer is far more basic: ensuring every one of her patients has food, shelter and safety.

When pharmacists think about improving medication adherence, they often focus on email reminders, follow-up calls and patient counselling.
