For some kids, September isn’t just about getting used to a new classroom. It can bring worries about friendships, teachers, academics, separation, routines, and all the unknowns that come with a new school year.

And sometimes, your child won’t say:

“I’m feeling anxious about school.”

Instead, you might notice:

😴 Trouble sleeping
🤕 Frequent tummy aches or headaches
😭 More tears
😤 More meltdowns or irritability
🚪 Wanting to stay home
🫥 Pulling away from friends or activities

These behaviours aren’t always about not wanting to go to school.

Sometimes they’re a child’s way of communicating:
“Something feels hard right now, and I don’t know how to tell you.” 💛

If you’ve noticed some changes in your child since school started, try getting curious before jumping into problem-solving.

“What has been feeling hardest lately?”
“Is there anything about school that’s been worrying you?”
“How can I help?”

And remember—you don’t have to make the worry disappear. Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is let your child know:

“It makes sense you’re feeling this way. We can figure it out together.”

If school-related anxiety continues to interfere with your child’s sleep, friendships, school attendance, or everyday life, child therapy can provide a safe space to work through those worries and build coping strategies. 🌱

5 Ways to Help Your Teen Survive Back-to-School Stress

A little back-to-school reminder for parents:
Your teen doesn’t need to have it all figured out. 💛

Sometimes supporting your teen through school stress isn’t about finding the perfect solution. It’s about helping them feel like they don’t have to carry everything alone.

Try:

💬 Connection before correction — ask how they’re doing before asking about homework.

📝 Break it down — one assignment, one task, one step at a time.

🎮 Make room for life outside school — hobbies, friends, movement, and REST matter too.

❤️ Watch the pressure — remind them that their grades don’t determine their worth.

🧠 Know when to reach out — if stress starts affecting their sleep, relationships, mood, school functioning, or enjoyment of everyday life, they may need some extra support.

And remember: therapy isn’t only for when things fall apart.

Sometimes it’s simply a space where your teen can say the things they don’t know how to say at home—and have someone help them make sense of it all.

If your teen is heading into the school year feeling overwhelmed, we’re here to help. 💛

Back-to-school stress doesn’t always look like, “I’m stressed.” 😵‍💫

Sometimes it looks like your teen:
🚪 Spending more time in their room
😤 Getting irritated over the smallest things
😴 Being exhausted all the time
📉 Suddenly struggling with school
🤕 Complaining about headaches or stomach aches
🙅‍♀️ Saying “I’m fine” when you know something feels off

The teen years already come with enough emotional plot twists. Add academic pressure, friendships, social media, extracurriculars, family expectations, and the pressure to figure out their future… and it can become a LOT.

So before jumping straight to “You need to get your work done,” try getting curious.

“What’s been feeling hardest lately?”
“What feels like the most pressure right now?”
“How can I support you?”

And if your teen is struggling to put it into words, that’s okay too. 💛

Teen therapy can give them a space to unpack what’s going on, develop coping strategies, and feel heard without judgment.

What if the answer isn’t trying harder?

What if it’s having better tools?

So many of us were taught to push through stress, ignore our emotions, and figure everything out on our own. But coping isn’t about pretending you’re okay—it’s about learning how to understand your emotions, regulate your nervous system, and respond to life’s challenges with greater flexibility.

That’s one of the many things individual counselling can offer.

Together, you can explore what keeps you feeling stuck, identify your unique triggers, and build coping strategies that fit *you*—not a one-size-fits-all solution.

You deserve support that meets you where you are.

If you’re ready to invest in yourself this summer, we’re here when you’re ready. 🤍

“I’m fine.”

Sometimes those two words tell us everything...
and sometimes they tell us almost nothing.

Teens don’t always have the words to explain what’s going on—and that’s okay.

In therapy, we’re listening for more than just what is said. We notice body language, tone of voice, pauses, facial expressions, and the emotions that might be sitting just beneath the surface.

Our goal isn’t to pressure teens into talking.

It’s to create a space where they feel safe enough to share when they’re ready.

💛 Through connection, curiosity, and trust, we help children and teens better understand their emotions, build healthy coping skills, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

If you’re looking for support for your child or teen, we’re here to help.

Consider this your reminder that coping skills don’t have to be complicated. 💛

Sometimes it’s taking a deep breath before responding.

Sometimes it’s writing your thoughts down.

Sometimes it’s stepping outside for five minutes.

Sometimes it’s giving yourself permission to tackle one thing instead of ten.

The goal isn’t to avoid difficult emotions—it’s to build tools that help you move through them with more confidence and compassion.

✨ Save this post for the next day that feels overwhelming.

And remember, if you’re not sure which coping strategies work best for you, therapy can help you build a mental health toolkit that’s personalized to your needs.

If you’ve ever watched your emotions go from 😌 to 🤯 in what feels like five minutes... you’re not alone.

Perimenopause and menopause can bring so much more than hot flashes and night sweats. Brain fog, mood changes, rage that seems to come out of nowhere, and the feeling of thinking, “Who even am I right now?” are all conversations we hear far too often.

That’s exactly why we created Peri-WHAT-now? Lunch, Laugh, Learn, Repeat. 💜

A free virtual space where women can come together to share the real, unfiltered parts of this stage of life—without judgment, and with plenty of understanding (and laughter).

📅 Upcoming Peer Groups:• July 29• September 30• October 28• November 25

🕛 12:00–1:00 PM💻 Online via Zoom💲 Free👩‍💼 Facilitated by Jodi Rouah, MSW, RSW

Because sometimes the best reminder is realizing you’re not the only one asking, “Is this normal?” 💛
