Fall in Alberta can be beautiful, but your eyes might not agree. 🍂👁️

Cooler air, indoor heating, and seasonal allergens can all contribute to dry eye symptoms like burning, irritation, watering, and fluctuating vision.

If eye drops aren’t providing enough relief, IPL therapy for dry eye may be worth exploring. This light-based treatment can help address inflammation and meibomian gland dysfunction, two factors that can contribute to ongoing dry eye symptoms.

Don’t let dry, irritated eyes follow you into winter. Ask our dry eye team if IPL treatment could be right for you.

A few simple habits can go a long way for your eye health. 👁️

This Vision Awareness Month, give your eyes a little extra attention. Keep up with regular eye exams, wear UV-protective sunglasses outdoors, take breaks during long stretches of screen time, and pay attention to any changes in your vision.

Healthy vision is worth protecting at every age.

When was the last time you checked your vision benefits? 👓🍂

Many vision insurance plans include coverage for routine eye exams, prescription glasses, or contact lenses, with benefits that may reset at the end of the year.

If you’re due for an eye exam or have noticed changes in your vision, October is a great time to check your coverage and plan ahead.

Not sure what your plan includes? Contact your insurance provider, then connect with our eye care team to schedule your next visit.

This World Sight Day, take a moment to think about something we often take for granted: our vision. 🌎👁️

Regular eye exams do more than check how clearly you can see. They also help monitor your overall eye health and identify changes that may not have noticeable symptoms at first.

World Sight Day is an important reminder that caring for our vision matters at every age.

When was your last eye exam? Make your eye health a priority and schedule your next visit today.

Your eyes are NOT the place to test that viral internet hack. 🫣👀

Expired eye drops, DIY remedies, and questionable online trends can irritate your eyes and may make symptoms like dryness, redness, or discomfort worse.

If something doesn’t feel right, skip the experimenting and talk to your eye doctor about what’s actually causing your symptoms and which treatment options are appropriate for your eyes.

Be honest... have you ever tried a questionable eye remedy? Drop a 🫣 in the comments. We promise we’re not judging!

New season, new schedule, and plenty of time on the field, court, or ice. ⚽👓

For kids who wear glasses, everyday frames aren’t always designed for the impact and movement that come with sports. Proper sports eyewear can provide a more secure fit and impact-resistant lenses while giving young athletes the clear vision they need to stay focused on the game.

Plus, their everyday glasses can stay safely on the sidelines.

Getting ready for the season? Ask us about prescription sports goggles and protective eyewear for your young athlete.

Stay independent. Never go it alone.

Joining Eye Recommend doesn't mean losing control of your clinic. It means staying independent while connecting with optometrists across Canada who share what works and advocate for the profession together.

What sets a thriving optometry practice apart from one that feels stuck? Hint: It’s not the equipment or the location.

Eye Recommend COO Teresa Sebastian shares why investing in your team culture is the ultimate competitive advantage for independent practices. When your team is supported, highly trained, and aligned, the patient experience improves naturally—building the kind of loyalty that keeps patients coming back.

Start working on your business instead of just in it. Watch the video to hear from Teresa, and head to the link in our bio to read the full article to learn how you can level up your team.

Is your practice ready for the baby boomer demographic shift?

Canada’s population is changing rapidly. Baby boomers make up roughly 25% of our population, and they are entering a new phase of life. Over the next 20 years, the pressure on the healthcare industry, especially eye care, is going to skyrocket.

Since cataracts are the leading cause of vision loss in people over 80, the demand for cataract treatment is about to surge.

But there’s a major hurdle: Awareness.

71% of people don't know how to identify cataract symptoms.
84% don't know the prevention recommendations.

Now is the time to act. As eye care professionals, we have a crucial opportunity to inform aging patients about cataracts, symptoms, and treatments.

Here is how your clinic can prepare today:

🔹 Leverage emerging tech to diagnose cataracts proactively.
🔹 Start conversations early, taking care to address patient fears.
🔹 Educate patients on symptoms and discuss modern treatment options.
🔹 Encourage word-of-mouth by asking patients to remind friends to get tested.
🔹 Set up a referral program tailored for aging patients.

Prioritize awareness, education, and prevention to position your clinic as the go-to destination for Canada’s aging population.

June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour the histories, cultures, and enduring contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples across Canada.

As a national network with members and communities from coast to coast to coast, this month is a meaningful reminder of the land we operate on and the relationships we are each responsible for nurturing—in our clinics, our communities, and our profession.

Reconciliation is ongoing. Listening and learning are part of that work, and we are committed to both.

We encourage our members across Canada to take time this month to reflect, engage, and honour the Indigenous communities in the regions where you live and practice.

We fitted our trainers with Meta Glasses and sent them out to do their thing! Here they are, upskilling Calgary practices at the Dispensing 2.0 Bootcamp.

The Dispensing 2.0 Bootcamp is perfect for team members who have already attended the Essentials Skills Bootcamp as the next step in their learning to enhance their knowledge. It's also valuable for your more senior team members who want to reach the next level with their skills or ready for cross-training.

Our bootcamps take place across Canada. Visit the events page on our website to see what's coming to you.
