Just a reminder—this reel is all in good fun and an exaggerated example. 😅 We know dilating your eyes isn’t anyone’s favorite part of an eye exam... and honestly, we get it!

That’s why many optometrists now offer **Mydriacyl® 0.5%**. It’s a dilating eye drop that temporarily widens the pupil so your optometrist can get a clear view of the retina, optic nerve, and other important structures at the back of the eye. 👁️A dilated exam helps detect eye diseases and other health conditions that may not show symptoms early on.

While dilation can cause temporary blurry near vision and light sensitivity, those effects wear off as the drops wear off. Your optometrist will recommend dilation when it’s the best way to thoroughly assess your eye health.

Thanks for laughing along with us—and remember, we’re always happy to answer any questions about why dilation is recommended. 😊

👀 Meet the tiny roommates you never asked for... Demodex mites! 🕷️

Don’t panic—they’re more common than you think! Demodex mites are microscopic creatures that naturally live in our hair follicles and around our eyelashes. Most of the time, they mind their own business and don’t cause any problems.

But when their numbers get a little too enthusiastic, they can contribute to:
✨ Itchy, irritated eyelids
✨ Redness and inflammation
✨ Crusty lashes
✨ Dry, watery eyes
✨ Blepharitis (eyelid inflammation)

And here’s where your bedtime routine comes in... 😴

Sleeping in your eye makeup or not thoroughly removing mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow can leave behind oils, debris, and dead skin cells around your lash line. While leftover makeup doesn’t create Demodex mites, it can contribute to an environment where they thrive and can make eyelid irritation even worse.

Think of them as the world’s tiniest houseguests—they’re perfectly happy with a clean home... but they love a messy one! 🏠😂

🧼 A few extra minutes spent gently removing your eye makeup and cleaning your eyelids each night can go a long way toward keeping your eyes healthy and comfortable.

👁️ Healthy lids = happy eyes! If you’re dealing with persistent itchy, irritated, or crusty eyelids, book an eye exam—we can help determine whether Demodex mites or another eyelid condition may be the culprit

From consult to clear vision - patient’s Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) journey Lumea

It starts with a personalized consult to set goals and confirm candidacy. This lens is best for patients over 50 who want to be independent from glasses at both near and far.

The surgery is quick and outpatient - the LAL is implanted by one of Lumea’s amazing surgeons, then healing begins. Over a span of 2-3 months, the implant is adjusted during a few in-office visits. During that time the patient can carry about their daily activities but must be careful to wear UV wrap protection (UV is what alters the implant post surgery) In this case the patient visited South America and even went skiing in Whistler.

During their appointments together the optometrist and patient work together to fine-tune the desired vision. In this way the patient is able to control their final result, making patient satisfaction quite high.

The final adjustment is “locked-in” at the last appointment, and then the patient can enjoy their new and improved vision without glasses - permanently

Curious if LALs could be right for you? Book a consult with us to learn more!
