Happy 4th BIRTH Day to me and my son 🩷

One of my favourite memories in our home was giving birth to him in the living room in the birthing pool.
The nuchal cord was wrapped tightly around his neck, so the cord was cut and the awesome newlifemidwives team calmly gave him some oxygen with the emergency kit set up. Minutes later, he was pink and back in my arms.

This birth taught me how powerful I was. It taught me how to surrender to the beautiful process of physiological birth. It taught me how to trust my body on another level. It taught me how grounding using the tool of Hypnobirthing can be.
It showed me how game changing it is to have a doula beside me. This birth was the best teacher.

Allow me to reintroduce myself - I’m Anya!
Registered nurse of 12 years. Mama Coach. Mom of Two.
I’ve been supporting mamas and babies for over 5 years with feeding - breast, bottle and solids! 🙌🏼

I hear it day after day. Pediatricians taking a “quick peek” in the mouth without actually assessing the function of the tongue.

This one mom had her baby assessed by 4 pediatricians. FOUR. No one referred her or made any recommendations because they said there’s no tongue tie they could see.

However there was tons of dysfunction and signs.

❌ Milk residue (white tongue)
❌ Flat head and turns to the right
❌ Gassy and Fussy
❌ High palate
❌ Unable to move tongue side to side
❌ Lips always tucked in on the bottle
❌ Falling asleep quickly on the breast
❌ Slow weight gain
❌ Ineffective milk removal on the breast

I’m sorry but your pediatrician does not have extensive and updated training to assess for a tongue or lip tie or oral dysfunction.

Parents deserve proper assessments and answers.

The side lying on the lap 🍼

⭐️ It’s easier to pace feed
⭐️ Easy on the wrist for parents
⭐️ Comfortable for baby

Holding a baby up straight in the sitting position can get tiring for your wrists and baby can easily go into a leaning back position where the flow is faster.

All of the tips above are protecting your breastfeeding relationship to ensure that baby is encouraged to do the work to remove the milk!

I've been meeting so many new parents who ask me for a breastfeeding hack that will let them sleep longer and skip overnight feeds.

I wish there were one.

The reality is that your body makes milk based on supply and demand. If your goal is to build and maintain your milk supply, milk needs to be removed regularly through breastfeeding or pumping, especially in those early weeks.

Going long stretches without removing milk can signal to your body that less milk is needed, which may impact supply over time.

The real "hack" is accepting that the first few weeks are an investment.

• Your baby will change your sleep routine.
• Rest whenever you can. Daytime naps aren't a luxury—they're an important way to recover.
• The first month is often the most demanding because you're establishing your milk supply while your baby is learning to feed.

It isn't always easy, but understanding what's happening can make those early weeks feel a little less overwhelming.
