Getting tested for ADHD as an adult can feel intimidating when you don't know what's coming.

Here's how it works at the DRCCH:

1. Intake Interview: A one-hour virtual conversation where we dig into your symptoms, history, and day-to-day challenges.

2. In-Person Evaluation: You'll come in for a comprehensive ADHD evaluation that includes a cognitive screen, so we understand not just whether you meet criteria, but why your symptoms show up and how they're impacting your life.

3. Feedback Session: We walk through your results together and build a personalized plan: accommodations, referrals, and practical strategies that actually fit your life.

An ADHD assessment isn't just a diagnosis; it's a roadmap to understanding how your brain works and finally building a game plan around it.

After a summer of later mornings, different schedules, and fewer routines, getting back into the school or work rhythm can take some time.

Your brain has to adjust, too.

Instead of trying to change everything at once, start small. Bring back consistent sleep and wake times, plan out your mornings, get organized the night before, and give yourself a little time to settle into the new routine.

Routines can reduce the amount of mental energy spent figuring out what comes next, leaving more room for focusing, learning, and getting things done.

A new routine doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be a place to start.

It’s completely normal for the first few weeks of school to feel a little overwhelming.

But what if the struggle isn't just about adjusting?

A psychoeducational assessment can help identify a student's learning strengths and areas of difficulty, providing a clearer picture of how they learn and what supports may help them succeed.

Sometimes, the first step isn't asking a student to try harder. It's understanding what they need to learn better.

If you're noticing ongoing concerns this school year, we're here to help. Reach out today and book a free consultation at drcognitivehealth.com.

Back-to-school doesn't always mean ‘back to normal’.

A new school year can bring excitement, but it can also highlight challenges that may have been easy to overlook.

A psychoeducational assessment can help uncover how your child learns, identify their strengths and areas of difficulty, and provide recommendations to support their success at school.

Sometimes, understanding why a child is struggling is the first step toward helping them thrive.

Trouble focusing. Racing thoughts. Restlessness. Forgetfulness. Difficulty sleeping.

At first glance, ADHD and anxiety can look surprisingly similar. But while the behaviours may overlap, the reasons behind them can be very different.

With ADHD, difficulty focusing may happen because your attention is easily pulled elsewhere or because your brain struggles to regulate and direct attention. Whereas, with anxiety, difficulty focusing may happen because worries, fears, or “what if” thoughts are taking up your mental space.

And sometimes, ADHD and anxiety can occur together, making it even harder to understand what is behind certain challenges.

If you're struggling with symptoms and wondering whether ADHD may be playing a role, a comprehensive assessment can help provide greater clarity and understanding.

Even when you’re lying in bed, staring out the window, daydreaming, or simply taking a break, your brain is still busy. It may be processing experiences, organizing memories, making connections, solving problems in the background, and preparing for what comes next.

That moment when the answer to a problem suddenly comes to you in the shower? Or when you finally figure something out after stepping away from it?

Your brain may have been working on it all along.

So, the next time you feel guilty for “doing nothing,” remember: rest is not the same as being unproductive.

Sometimes, giving your brain space to wander, reset, and recharge is exactly what it needs.
