Huge shoutout to sisters Alia and Jordana Karam as they head to Florida to represent Team Canada at the ICU World Cheerleading Championships šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦
Alia not only competes at an elite level, but also gives back as a coach with the Blackjacks and is a cheerleader for the Redblacks šŸ’„
We’ve also had the pleasure of working with Jordana in the past, and it’s amazing to see both of them chasing big goals on the world stage.
šŸ’™Wishing you both the best of luck and our OOC team will be cheering you on šŸ‘

šŸ‘‰šŸ»To our up and coming athletes: Sierra’s journey is a reminder that sport isn’t always a straight line.
Injuries and setbacks are part of the path…but so is growth. What matters most isn’t how fast you come back, but how well you rebuild.
With the right support, patience, and trusting the process, recovery becomes more than healing, it becomes a foundation for what’s next.

šŸ¤To every young athlete: stay consistent, lean on your team, and believe in your comeback🫶

Shockwave therapy (more formally called Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy) is a treatment physiotherapists use to help stubborn pain and injuries, especially in tendons and soft tissue.
It uses high-energy sound waves (not electrical shocks) that are delivered through the skin to a targeted area of your body using a handheld device.
ā˜ļøThink of it as a way to ā€œwake upā€ tissue that’s been stuck in a slow or incomplete healing phase.
Those sound waves:
šŸ”¹Stimulate blood flow (brings oxygen to the area)
šŸ”¹Trigger a healing response
šŸ”¹Break down scar tissue or calcifications.

Shockwave therapy is especially helpful for chronic, stubborn conditions like:
🦶Plantar fasciitis (heel pain)
šŸŽ¾Tennis elbow
🦵Achilles tendinopathy
😩Rotator cuff tendinopathy
šŸ‘‰šŸ»Calcific shoulder pain

Basically, conditions that haven’t improved with rest, exercise, or other treatments.

Does it hurt?
Not really. It can be uncomfortable but usually tolerable
Afterwards the area may feel sore for a day or two (similar to a deep workout)

The goal is to:
šŸ”¹Improve tissue quality
šŸ”¹Restore function
šŸ”¹Help you tolerate loading/exercise again

šŸ¤That’s why it’s often paired with a rehab program (strengthening, mobility work, etc.) for best results.

Thinking about getting out for more walks this spring? 🌿🌺
🦶
It might be time to check in on your orthotics. Even if they seem okay, they can lose support over time and your body might start to notice as your activity picks up.
Get ahead of spring activity 🌷
Book in with our orthopedist and make sure you’re set up for success.

Your deep core isn’t about a six-pack, it’s your body’s natural brace. When your Transversus Abdominis is doing its job, it stabilizes your spine before you even move. When it’s not, that’s when low back pain and poor control start to show up.
Your Gluteus Medius is a quiet powerhouse for hip stability and knee alignment. If it’s weak, you’ll often see knees caving in, hips dropping, and a higher risk of injury … especially with running or sport.
And don’t forget the Tibialis Posterior. It plays a huge role in supporting your arch and keeping your foot and ankle stable. When it’s not functioning well, issues like arch collapse, shin pain, or ankle discomfort can follow.

These muscles might not get the spotlight, but they’re doing the work that keeps you moving well and staying injury-free.
