BIRTH CONTROL: MYTHS, FACTS & NEWER OPTIONS
Birth control is not only about preventing pregnancy. Depending on the method, it may also help manage painful or heavy periods, improve acne, regulate bleeding and reduce the risk of ovarian and endometrial cancers.
MYTH: “The pill causes infertility.”
FACT: Fertility usually returns after stopping birth control. Some methods may cause a temporary delay, but they do not generally cause permanent infertility.
MYTH: “You need to take a break from the pill.”
FACT: There is no medical need to routinely “give your body a break” if your birth control is working well and remains safe for you.
MYTH: “All birth-control pills are the same.”
FACT: Pills contain different types and doses of hormones. Finding the right option depends on your health, symptoms, preferences and risk factors.
