I didn’t even know the word narcissist until I was sitting in marriage counselling.
The therapist looked at my husband and then at me and said something I will never forget:
“He is a narcissist. You’re going to need a lot of support.”
As a High-Sensing Soul, I spent most of my life forgiving, helping and fixing others.
I could feel everyone’s pain and see the wounded child underneath their behaviour.
But what I didn’t realize was that understanding someone’s wounds doesn’t mean you have to keep volunteering to be wounded by them.
If you are a parentified peacekeeper, a firstborn fixer or a people-pleaser who always puts others first, watch the patterns rather than trying to diagnose people:
• Do they ask “How are you?” or do they only ask “Where are you?”
• What happens when you say no, have a need or face a crisis?
• Do their words match their actions over time?
• Who do you become when you are around them?
• Are you peaceful or are you constantly walking on eggshells waiting for the shoe to drop?
• Do they live in clutter?
You do not need to become hard, stop loving or stop forgiving.
You simply need boundaries strong enough to protect your softness.
This week for Sober SoulCare Sunday, I released a full deep-dive video on YouTube along with a free downloadable guide to help you recognize these patterns, stop self-abandonment and protect your peace.
