When life feels overwhelming, sometimes it can feel like there is nothing that we can do to help.

Here are a few ways we can do when we feel overwhelmed:

1. Take a deep breath 🌼 - this can be done anywhere but we often forget to slow down and take time to regulate through breath work.

2. Write down your thoughts 📔 - time to use up that old journal and write down anything that comes to mind! It doesn't have to be perfect and it only has to make sense to you.

3. Go for a short walk 🚶🏼‍♀️- take a 5 minute stroll around your neighbourhood, listen to the birds singing, look at the pretty fall colours!

4. Be kind to yourself 💗 - this can seem easier said than done, however you can find small ways to be kind to yourself! Try reframing what you say to yourself. For example, instead of saying "I can't do this", try saying "This may be difficult and uncomfortable but I can try my best to do this".

5. Disconnect to reconnect 📵 - It is so easy to doom scroll for hours and end up feeling like your day has been wasted. Try setting timers on your distracting apps or using app blockers like Focus Friend to help you disconnect from technology and reconnect to in-person activities!

Today is National Truth & Reconciliation Day. It is an opportunity to learn, listen, reflect, and honour the experiences of Indigenous Peoples and Survivors.

Listening to Indigenous voices, learning about the history and ongoing impacts of colonialism, and supporting Indigenous communities are things we can and will continue to do every day.

If you’re looking to learn more or need support, we’ve gathered resources that can help youth, families, and community members learn about truth and reconciliation, Indigenous history, and available mental health supports.

Caring for your mental health and well-being doesn’t have to be done alone 💓

Practicing self-care, staying connected with your friends and family, and practicing moments of mindfulness and meditation techniques can help make mental health challenges feel more manageable.
