Do you often feel like you are being held hostage by a person, conversation, phone call, meeting or event?

You may have never been taught that you have a right to end a conversation, leave an event early, or cut a visit short.

In this video, I offer several strategies that will help you take better control of your time.

Have you ever had a thought that was so convincing, but ended up being wildly inaccurate?

Chances are you have suffered a cognitive distortion, an error in your thinking that alters how you perceive and/or process a situation.

There is nothing wrong with you, everybody gets them. But they can disrupt relationships, having us going down emotional rabbit holes.

In this video, I outline 5 of the most common distortions, and offer suggestions on how you can challenge them.

Have you ever thought, "Therapy just isn't working?"

Lots of people experience this. Don't get me wrong, sometimes therapy is, in fact, not working. Maybe your therapists approach is not effective. Maybe you've been misdiagnosed. Maybe you are resisting suggestions or not following through on suggestions.

Many times though, we perceive therapy to not be working out of our own impatience. We want to be fixed IMMEDIATELY.

Therapy does not work like that, but it DOES work. Are you perhaps overlooking subtle changes like anxiety being less intense or not lasting as long? Maybe you are able to have more difficult conversations than you are used to. Maybe your "downs" aren't as deep or prolonged.

In this video, I propose some questions you can ask yourself to see if you have actually been making progress, and a simple tool to track your progress.

**TRIGGER WARNING** In this video, I offer my reflections on the recent news out of Cornell University. As such, I speak about sxual assault. If these topics disturb you, please consider skipping this video.

Do you constantly feel that you need to hide the true you in order to be accepted?

This is called masking, and it is a daily reality for us neurodivergent folk.

Over the years, neurodivergent people are often made to feel that their emotions are "too big", that they get "too excited" or are "too intense".

But that may be our way of being, and we often learn that we need to act like everybody else just to be accepted.

Have you ever had to mask? What happens when you don't?

Have you ever woken up in the morning and thought, "I just cant do this"? You may need to take some time off work.

Sadly, we live and work in a culture that glorifies "the grind", so many of us try to ignore the subtle and not-so-subtle hints that our minds and bodies are sending us. Those messages are saying, "We need rest! We need healing!"

Taking time off work is something that most of us (especially men) feel we are not allowed to do. But if we don't, we risk real damage to ourselves, our families and even our colleagues.

Taking time off is prioritizing yourself.

A viewer asked me, "Who the hell do you think you are?", so I decided to take the opportunity to introduce myself.

A viewer asked if I thought AI was a good replacement for therapy.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: hell no.

While AI is useful for some things, therapy is about relationship and connection. AI can't do that.

Have you used AI to explore your own mental health concerns? What was the result. I'd love to hear about it.

Does your inner critic talk you out of taking chances that might actually be truly life-giving?

Most of us have a robust inner critic or negative voice. This voice acts like a really bad friend who discourages you whenever you come up with a plan, an idea or a dream.

But this inner critic is actually trying to help. Most often, it is trying to protect you from pain, embarrassment or disappointment.

But there is a way to harness that voice, and even if it can't help you, you can at least reduce the negative impact it has on you. Find out more in this video.

I love it when my kids learn new things. I'm filled with pride when they figure something out, or when they exercise their independence.

But nobody told me how hard that can be to watch.

We may grumble at having to do certain things for our kids, but once they figure out how to do that, they don't need us for that anymore. Someday, they won't need us at all.

That causes me some feelings.

What about you? Is there a moment where your kids grew and matured, and you felt your own relevance diminish?
