Merivale Cat Hospital The Cat Hospitals: Ottawa's only veterinary hospitals devoted exclusively to cats! At Merivale Cat Hospital, we exclusively see cats!

That means there are no barking dogs in the waiting room who can upset your cats! Our cat-only veterinary hospital is dedicated to the health and well-being of your feline family. Merivale Cat Hospital was founded by Dr. Doug Boeckh more than 25 years ago. Dr. Chermain Yui and Dr. Kelly Batten make up our team of cat-loving veterinarians. Our veterinary and technical team has experience treating a wide range of cat personalities, from the very nervous to the very grouchy. We are equipped with an in-house laboratory, X-ray machine, full anesthetic, surgical suite, and dental facilities. Ultrasonography and endoscopy can be arranged if needed. Plus we carry a range of specialty cat foods. After-hours emergencies and unexpected medical concerns happen, and it can be difficult to know what to do. Cat owners play an important role in the community when it comes to rabies prevention. By vaccinating your cat against rabies, you help keep people and their pets safe. Since bats, the primary wildlife carrier of rabies in Ontario, can be urban-dwelling animals, rabies vaccines for cats are just as important in larger cities like Ottawa as they are in rural areas. We have some more exciting news! We are proud to announce that Dr. Juliana Esteves is officially a veterinarian at Merivale Cat Hospital! If you’ve visited MCH in the past few years, you may recognize Dr. Juliana as one of our veterinary technicians. That’s because she is credentialed as both a veterinarian and a veterinary technician. As a veterinarian, she has always dedicated herself to feline medicine. Dr. Juliana graduated in Brazil in 2009 and completed a postgraduate degree in feline medicine, and she even owned the first Silver Standard Cat Friendly Practice in Foz do Iguaçu, where she used to live. The journey of following her passion as a feline-focused veterinarian in Canada has been a long one. Since she joined us in 2023, Dr. Juliana completed many educational and testing requirements, including the difficult College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO) jurisprudence exam, and achieved her permanent residency status- all while working as a vet tech!

In 2025, she was officially licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Canada and has finally made it to the moment she has been dreaming about. Dr. Juliana says that working with Dr. Susan Little was always a dream of hers because she is a big reference in feline medicine for all cat-loving vets. Being able to expand her knowledge and provide her skills to the Ottawa community as a veterinarian is a huge accomplishment that she is proud of. We are so proud of her too! We witnessed her commitment, dedication, and perseverance during this long and complicated process. She’s handled it with patience and grace. Dr. Juliana is a passionate, caring, and involved veterinarian, focused on building relationships with her patients and clients. We can’t wait for her to live her dream at last, because she is beyond deserving of it becoming her reality. Congratulations, Dr. Juliana!
