This is Chelsea - For Chelsea Collins, being a Personal Support Services Professional Practice Coach means being out in the community alongside Carefor's Personal Support Workers, providing hands-on coaching, mentorship, and support where care happens every day.

Working closely with both new and experienced PSWs, Chelsea helps strengthen clinical skills, build confidence, and reinforce best practices that support high-quality, person-centred care. From onboarding new staff to helping seasoned professionals refine their practice, her role is focused on ensuring PSWs feel supported, connected, and equipped to succeed.

As a former Personal Support Worker and Registered Practical Nurse, Chelsea brings firsthand experience to her work. She understands the critical role PSWs play in helping people remain safely at home and advocates for greater recognition of their contributions as essential members of the healthcare team. Through one-on-one coaching and real-time learning opportunities, she helps staff develop not only the skills they need, but also the confidence to recognize concerns, respond appropriately, and make a meaningful difference in clients' lives.

Chelsea's work reflects Carefor's commitment to investing in our people and fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and excellence in care.

That commitment has also been recognized beyond Carefor, with Chelsea recently selected as a recipient of the 2026 WeRPN Research Fellowship, where her research will explore ways to strengthen onboarding, mentorship, and early support for Personal Support Workers in community care.

Carefor Announces Retirement of President & CEO Steve Perry and Appointment of Emma Tibbo as Acting CEO

After 28 years with Carefor, including nearly 10 years as President & CEO, Steve Perry has announced his retirement and will be joining the Petawawa Centennial Family Health Centre as Executive Director in August 2026.

Steve’s leadership has helped shape Carefor into one of Ontario’s most respected home and community care organizations, guiding the organization through the pandemic, achieving Accreditation Canada’s Exemplary Standing, and advancing home and community care across Eastern Ontario.

As Carefor begins the search for its next President & CEO, the Board of Directors has appointed Emma Tibbo as Acting CEO. Emma brings extensive healthcare leadership experience and a deep understanding of Carefor through her previous service on the Board of Directors.

Please join us in thanking Steve for his outstanding contributions and congratulating Emma on her new role.

Creativity, Connection, and Canadian Inspiration at the Carling Adult Day Program

Over the past four weeks, participants in our Tuesday Ladies Club and Thursday Club embarked on a special artist study featuring beloved Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis.

Clients learned about Maud’s life, her artistic journey, and how she overcame physical challenges to pursue what brought her joy. Through guided art sessions, participants explored techniques used in her work while creating their own versions of Fluffy, inspired by Maud’s childhood cat.

Along the way, they learned about primary colours, colour blocking, and texture techniques to create the cat’s fluffy fur, along with the vibrant tulips and apple blossoms that are hallmarks of Maud Lewis’s paintings.

The project concluded during our Canada-themed week with a special presentation where each participant named and shared their artwork with the group. These moments are among the most meaningful in our program, fostering confidence, self-expression, and a sense of accomplishment. As peers applauded one another’s creations, everyone celebrated the unique perspectives and talents that make each work of art, and each person, truly special.

At the Carling Adult Day Program, meaningful activities like art provide opportunities for people living with dementia to connect, learn, create, and shine.

Starting Over, Every Day

After 15 years with National Defence, Marie made a life-changing decision. Inspired by caring for her grandparents as they aged, she left a secure career, returned to school, and began a new journey dedicated to supporting older adults.

That journey took her from palliative care in Quebec to home care in England, retirement homes, long-term care, and eventually to Carefor. Today, Marie is a valued member of the Carefor Carling Adult Day Program, where she brings humour, compassion, and energy to every day.

For Marie, the most meaningful part of her work is helping people focus on what remains, not what has been lost. At the Adult Day Program, she sees participants arrive nervous and unsure, then gradually begin to smile, connect, laugh, sing, dance, and feel at home.

"Here, people come to have a good day," says Marie. "We give them the best day we can. And then the next day, we start all over again."
That idea of starting over is at the heart of Marie's approach. Whether supporting someone living with dementia or welcoming a new participant, each day is a fresh opportunity for joy, connection, and belonging.

Thank you, Marie, for reminding us that every day holds the possibility of a new beginning, and that everyone deserves a place where they are welcomed exactly as they are.

Celebrating Culture, Connection & Community at Carling Adult Day Program

This week, our Carling Adult Day Program embraced Cultural Diversity Month in the days between Indigenous People's Day (June 21) and Canadian Multiculturalism Day (June 27)—a time to honour the rich heritage of our clients and celebrate Indigenous culture and traditions.

With the support of our Therapeutic Recreation student, Phoebe, we explored Indigenous history and traditions in a meaningful and delicious way. Drawing on her own heritage, Phoebe partnered with our talented cook, Sean, to create a memorable, Indigenous-inspired menu prepared from scratch:

🍲 Three Sisters Soup with Bannock (freshly made by Phoebe)
🐟 Trout Cake with wild rice on seasonal succotash
🍓 Mixed Berry Crumble with English cream

Beyond the meal, Phoebe shared the stories and significance behind the ingredients, highlighting traditions of foraging, fishing, and the cultural importance of foods like wild rice, berries, and corn.

Throughout the week, beautiful displays of Indigenous art and artifacts sparked curiosity, conversation, and connection among clients and staff alike.

Thank you to Phoebe and Sean for bringing this experience to life, and to our community for celebrating diversity with such openness and enthusiasm. ❤️
