Every child matters. Every day. We are committed to advancing reconciliation. We support Indigenous health in Indigenous hands.

On Truth and Reconciliation Day, September 30, also known as Orange Shirt Day, we honour the stories and histories of Indigenous children, their families and communities who were impacted by Indian Residential Schools. We also remember those children who did not survive the colonial practices that lasted generations.

It is critical for us to know and acknowledge the history and the current realities of Indigenous people in Ontario to be meaningfully engaged in allyship and reconciliation. The Truth and Reconciliation commission and the 94 Calls to Action, outline that there is much work to do to address the intergenerational harms and lasting effects of colonial policies. In healthcare, we are committed to answering the call to action from Indigenous communities for “Indigenous health in Indigenous hands.”

From our Health Equity Charter, we describe this approach as “our work of advancing Indigenous health equity is rooted in our commitment to reconciliation, meaningful allyship relationships and Indigenous people’s rights to self-determination, which includes our commitment to Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands. It starts with the recognition and realization of the individual and collective rights of Indigenous people.”

As the Alliance, we continue to work with the Indigenous Primary Health Care Council (IPHCC) and in joint membership with Indigenous Primary Health Care Organizations. This is just one way we are advancing and advocating for “Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands”. This is critical to sustainability, self-governance, wellbeing and healing.

We are offering an information session in partnership with OC Transpo about the EquiPass, which offers reduced transit fares for individuals and families who meet the income eligibility requirements.

The session will be delivered entirely in Arabic, making it easier for Arabic-speaking community members to understand the program, ask questions, and receive support with the application process.

NEW CLINIC SEPT 10 / NOUVELLE CLINIQUE DU 10 SEPT

The African Canadian Association of Ottawa, in collaboration with the South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre are pleased to offer a new Thursday walk-in clinic beginning September 10, 2026.
The clinic is available every Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for Ottawa residents of all ages.

Services include general health assessments, chronic disease screening and treatment, mental health support, referrals to specialists and community resources, sexual and reproductive health services, preventive care and screening, prescription renewals, and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries.

No OHIP card is required — PSFI/IHF coverage is accepted. Priority is given to people who do not have a family doctor. Temporary visa holders are not eligible, and eligibility for individuals with pending immigration status will be assessed.

Monthly Immunization Clinic:

The first Friday of each month, from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM, beginning October 2, 2026.

Routine and catch-up vaccines for babies, children, youth and adults are available, along with flu vaccination in the fall and TB skin testing. All vaccines are free.

L’Association Africains Canadiens d'Ottawa et le Centre de santé communautaire du sud-est d’Ottawa sont heureux d’offrir une nouvelle clinique sans rendez-vous les jeudis à compter du 10 septembre 2026. La clinique est ouverte tous les jeudis de 9 h à 16 h et accueille les résidents d’Ottawa de tous âges.

Les services comprennent l’évaluation générale de la santé, le dépistage et le traitement des maladies chroniques, le soutien en santé mentale, les références vers des spécialistes et des ressources communautaires, les services de santé se****le et reproductive, les soins préventifs et les dépistages, le renouvellement d’ordonnances et de formulaires médicaux, ainsi que le traitement des maladies et blessures mineures.

La carte OHIP n’est pas requise — les couvertures PSFI/IHF sont acceptées. La priorité est accordée aux personnes qui n’ont pas de médecin de famille. Les titulaires d’un visa temporaire ne sont pas admissibles, et l’admissibilité des personnes dont le statut d’immigration est en attente sera évaluée.
