The CMA applauds the passage in Parliament of Bill S-228, an Act to amend the Criminal Code (sterilization procedures).

Patients must be able to make their own decisions about their care, free from any pressure or coercion. We stand with survivors of forced and coerced sterilizations and are committed to continuing our work in partnership with Indigenous People to put our reconciliation commitments into practice.

We thank Senator Yvonne Boyer, Members of Parliament, Senators and the many experts and community leaders who contributed evidence throughout the legislative process.

The CMA supports the World Medical Association’s intervention at the World Health Assembly, highlighting urgent concerns about rising false health information, declining trust, and moves away from evidence-based immunization.

These trends are being felt in Canada, where false health information is impacting care and straining physicians. We are proud to work with global partners through the WMA to advance coordinated, evidence-based solutions that protect public trust and health.
