There are a few things Lorraine Driscoll from Building Better Brains will never stop believing as an Educational Therapist.
These are my six hills to die on:
🧠 1. Learning challenges can be overcome.
The brain is capable of change. With the right approach, children can build stronger cognitive skills and become more confident, independent learners.
📚 2. The education system is designed to accommodate—not correct.
IEPs, extra time, and classroom supports are valuable, but they're designed to help children cope, not address why they're struggling.
🏃 3. The body drives the brain.
Sleep, nutrition, movement, retained reflexes, vision, gut health, and nervous system regulation all influence how a child learns.
🎯 4. Tutoring is often a Band-Aid on a wound that needs surgery.
Tutoring teaches content. Educational therapy strengthens the brain systems that make learning possible in the first place.
💛 5. Children are more than a label.
A diagnosis can provide understanding and support, but it shouldn't become a ceiling on what's possible. The question isn't just "What does my child have?" It's "Why is their brain functioning this way, and can we improve it?"
❤️ 6. Mothers know.
If you've been told, "They're fine," but something in you says otherwise... don't ignore that feeling. You know your child in a way no report or assessment ever can.
Your instincts matter.
Your child deserves more than simply learning to live around their challenges.
They deserve the opportunity to strengthen the foundations of learning itself.
✨ If you're ready to start asking the questions nobody else has asked, a Neuro-Functional Assessment is where we begin—identifying the root causes and creating a plan to help your child thrive.
