Not sure who needs to hear this, but a dysregulated nervous system will not appeal to logic. No amount of cognitive effort will coax it into regulation.
It's not that the mind isn't powerful – when a problem can be solved by intellect or will power, your mind is the best tool for the job.
But, if you've every tried to negotiate with anxiety or rationalize with a trauma response, you know there are limits to what your mind can do.
This is because there is SO much of your body that the thinking part of your brain has no control over. The part of your nervous system that's affected by (and creates physical responses to) stress, trauma, hormone imbalances and anxiety is one example.
The good news is, your body is also powerful – especially when it comes to regulating an overwhelmed nervous system.
