A question I get often is: What does a first/initial chiropractic visit look like?
The first step is for me to look through the intake form that you filled out and see what is bringing you into the office. It allows me a chance to get familiar with what the problem could.
Once you arrive to the office, I will then start by taking a history. A history is when I ask you some more specific questions about what the problem is: like what are you feeling, type of pain and how is it impacting your life. I also want to know why getting this resolved is important to you (hint it’s not always just about getting rid of the pain).
Then it’s time to move into the physical exam/assessment. That is where I will ask you to perform tests like range of motion and functional movement screens to get a whole picture of how your body is moving and functioning. Note: it is always a good idea to wear shorts or comfortable clothing so we get a better idea of how you move, jeans can limit movement!
After the exam/assessment we will discuss the findings, and treatment that will be performed. This is where you can ask greater questions. My goal is to help you understand what is going on and empower you with that knowledge. PS. Questions are welcome at any point during your visit, so you don’t have to wait till this point to ask!
Then it’s time to treat. This is specific to each individual and can include: soft tissue work, joint mobilization, cupping, kinseiotape etc. It is all dependant on the findings.
Lastly I ALWAYS give exercises because Active care is very important in your recovery and in building your resilience or even improving performance! Again these are tailored to the individual, but if you have seen some of the posts, you can see some of the exercises that are sometimes prescribed in the office!
As always please feel free to post your questions below or to send me a DM if you prefer!
Keep moving!
