A little glimpse of Rachel beyond the therapy room. ๐ฑ
When Rachel Norman, MEd, RP, is not supporting clients as a Registered Psychotherapist at Back in Balance, you will likely find her spending time in the garden.
Gardening can be a meaningful way to support mental wellbeing. It encourages us to slow down, spend time outdoors, engage our senses, and focus on something tangible in the present moment. It can also offer a sense of routine, accomplishment, and hope as we watch something grow over time.
This year, Rachel harvested 76 bulbs of garlic and plans to save the 20 largest to plant again this fall, with the hope of growing more than 100 next year.
She also shared a few of her favourite garlic-growing tips for our fellow gardeners:
๐ง Choose locally grown garlic suited to your climate.
๐ง Choose the largest, healthiest bulbs you can findโthe larger the bulbs you plant, the better your chances of growing large bulbs.
๐ง Plant individual cloves in the fall, pointed end up.
๐ง Garlic is a heavy feeder, so enrich the soil with good compost or an appropriate fertilizer.
๐ง Save your largest and healthiest bulbs each year for replanting.
What is something you enjoy doing that helps you slow down and find a little balance? ๐ฟ
