Runners + cyclists, this is your reminder to check your jaw 👀

Clenching can sneak in during harder efforts, long rides, runs, or even when you’re focused and fatigued.

Try this quick reset:
1️⃣ Let your teeth gently separate and rest your tongue lightly on the roof of your mouth
2️⃣ Take a slow breath in
3️⃣ Exhale and let your shoulders drop

Jaw tension doesn’t always stay in the jaw. If you notice clenching, neck tension, or headaches during training, TMJ treatment may be worth chatting about at your next appointment✨

Benefits of Controlled Articular Rotations (aka “CARs”)
- Train a joint’s entire range of motion, hitting the sticky spots that often get missed with standard mobility exercises
- Utilize/activate every muscle involved around that joint
- Maintain your range of motion as you age
- Develop control to prevent injury

If you neck has been giving you grief at work or when your riding your bike give this exercise a try

- Sit on a bench or chair with your feet on the ground
- Hold a resistance band in each hand and then step on the band
- Let the resistance band pull your arms slightly down
- Then inhale through your nose for 4 seconds
- Exhale through your mouth and let your jaw drop
- Repeat for 5 breaths

If you’re trying to strengthen your hip flexors to improve running speed, reduce tight hips, or rehab a nagging hip injury, ditch the bands and give this strength drill a try instead!

☑️Stand on an elevated surface & secure a weight to your foot (Kettlebell works great but you can get creative with ankle weights or dumbbells)
☑️Raise your leg up to 90 degrees, then lower back down
☑️2 sets of 6-8 reps, hold ~3 seconds, per side, per exercise

This doesn’t mean that bands are bad, the weights are just a more effective variation for producing force through the hip flexors.
