Today is Merchant Navy Veterans Day.
Officially recognized by Parliament in 2003, September 3rd honours the courage and sacrifice of the 12,000 Canadians who served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War.
While transporting essential supplies, equipment, and personnel around the world, Merchant mariners faced constant danger in the Battle of the Atlantic.
At Perley Health, today and every day, we remain committed to providing Veterans with the compassionate, person-centred care, dignity, and respect they deserve.

🐾 The dog days of summer have arrived at Perley Health!

Today is International Dog Day and we’re celebrating some of our favourite four-legged visitors.

There’s something special about seeing a resident spend time with a dog. Faces light up. Hands reach out for a soft ear or furry head. And often, memories of much-loved pets come flooding back.

These simple moments of connection and joy are an important part of life at Perley Health. Thanks to you, Veterans and seniors have opportunities to enjoy the people, activities and experiences that make each day meaningful.

Sometimes, joy looks like music, art or time with friends. And sometimes, it comes with a wagging tail. ❤️🐾

• Morning Session (9:00 AM): Partner exhibits including the Council on Aging of Ottawa, Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County, Ontario Association of Residents' Councils, and Perley Health’s Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care™ and Foundation.
• Celebration: First anniversary of the Active Seniors and Veterans Living Centre programs (with cake!).
• Afternoon: Free health and wellness trial classes for Veterans and Seniors.

On August 15, 1945, the end of the Second World War arrived with the declaration of Victory over Japan (V-J) Day.
As Canadians acknowledge and celebrate the return of peace, we pause to remember and honour the sacrifices made during the conflict.
Today, we remember and pay tribute to the more than 10,000 Canadians who served during this conflict.
Serving Canada’s Veterans has been at the heart of Perley Health for more than 75 years.
