Eloise: “Elliot?”

Elliot: “Mm?” (barely lifting a paw from the blanket)

Eloise: “It’s cold and rainy. Even the windows feel unfriendly.”

Elliot: “It is,” he murmured, eyes half-closed. “But it’s also the sort of day made for blankets, shared warmth, and absolutely no sudden movements.”

Eloise: “Oh,” she said softly, slipping under the blanket beside him. “That’s actually quite nice.”

And so they stayed—two nearly-naked cats, warmer together than the weather outside could ever understand.
