Language creates safety. In birth work, the words we use can either open a door or build a wall.
As we step into June, I want to take the time to acknowledge that love is what brings families together, but active, dedicated advocacy is what keeps them safe…especially in the birth room.
Systemic gaps in perinatal care mean that 2SLGBTQIA+ parents and birthing people still face unique challenges when navigating the healthcare system. True doula care means bridging that gap. It means fiercely protecting your autonomy, honoring your identity, and ensuring your birth environment is a safe space to welcome your child.
As Marsha P. Johnson famously reminded us, ‘No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.’ This month and every month, we celebrate the beautiful diversity of all families, while remaining committed to the work of making reproductive care safer and more equitable for everyone. 🙌🏾🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
