Mental health treatment takes more than 6 sessions to fix years of build up to the behaviours that are bringing a family in for support. She does a great job here of reflecting why the child is struggling with their parent from traumatic experiences years prior.

Getting to the origin of behaviours takes time, patience, and honest reflection with the therapist about what led up to the presenting challenge areas. Behaviour is communication. Parents being honest with the therapist about where they're really starting from is an integral part of the healing process to help children get back to the healthiest version of themselves.

Not all teens show when they’re struggling.
Some get louder, but others get quieter.

They say, “I’m fine.”
They stay in their room.
They pull back in ways that are easy to overlook or misunderstand.
But quiet doesn’t always mean okay.

Sometimes it means they’re carrying something they don’t know how to process… or don’t have the words to explain.
In my work, I often see how these experiences can stay beneath the surface. Can be held in the body, showing up in subtle ways over time.

Approaches like EMDR can help teens begin to process those experiences safely, especially when talking about them feels too hard or overwhelming.
💭 Have you noticed your teen becoming quieter lately?
✨ Save this for a moment when you’re trying to understand what might be going on beneath the surface.

It’s not always easy to know what your teen needs.

They might not want to talk.
They might say “I’m fine.”
Or they might not fully understand what they’re feeling themselves.

And that’s often where parents feel stuck.

In my work with teens, therapy isn’t about pushing them to open up before they’re ready.
It’s about creating a space where they don’t have to have the right words right away.

We move at their pace. We follow what feels safe. Over time, that space becomes a place where they can begin to make sense of what’s happening inside, without pressure.

Every teen is different.
But feeling understood, not rushed, is often where the process begins.

💭 If you’ve been wondering whether therapy could support your teen, you’re not alone in that question.

Starting therapy doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.

Often, it begins with a simple conversation.
A space where you can pause, reflect, and speak openly about what’s been weighing on your heart.

For children, that space may look like play.
For adults, it might be a quiet moment to untangle thoughts and feelings that have been carried for a long time.

Therapy isn’t about rushing change. It’s about creating a safe place where growth can happen at its own pace.
If you’ve been thinking about reaching out, you’re not alone.

💬 You’re welcome to reach out anytime, no pressure, just conversation.
Save this for a moment when you need a gentle reminder that you don’t have to do it all alone.

Big reactions aren’t always about the moment.

Sometimes, they’re carrying something deeper.
Tiredness.
Feeling misunderstood.
Needing reassurance.

These aren’t behaviours to “fix,” but signals to notice.
Children are still learning how to translate what they feel inside into what they can express outside. Until that language develops, emotion often speaks for them.

Sometimes, what looks like “too much” is actually just a child saying: I need help feeling safe in this moment 🤍

💬 If this resonates, you might find more gentle insights helpful to explore.

Healing rarely happens all at once.
More often, it looks like quiet shifts.

A moment when you pause before reacting.
A deeper breath in the middle of a difficult day.
A conversation that feels a little more open than the last one.

These moments may seem small, but they carry meaning 🤍

They are signs that something inside you is softening.
Learning.
Growing.

In therapy, progress is rarely loud or dramatic. It’s steady and subtle, like roots growing beneath the soil. You might not see the change immediately.

However, over time, those roots create strength that supports everything above the surface, and that quiet work matters more than you may realize.
Share this with someone who might need a gentle reminder today.

Progress in children rarely arrives with big announcements.

It’s quieter than that. It looks like staying with a feeling for a few seconds longer.
Choosing a different ending in their play.

Letting you sit a little closer than last time. It might look like fewer words, but more safety, fewer reactions, and more steadiness.

In the playroom, I often witness these small shifts. They’re easy to miss if we’re only watching for something dramatic. But this is how growth usually happens. Not loud. Not rushed.

Just gently unfolding, at a pace that feels safe.

If you’ve been wondering whether therapy is “working,” sometimes the most meaningful changes are the quiet ones🤍
Save this for the days you’re unsure. Growth is often quieter than we expect.

A new opening is available at Retreat Into Wellness. It’s a beautiful office space for a therapist who is looking to practice in the Grey-Bruce area.

Reaching out for therapy can feel like standing at the edge of a forest path 🌿

You might sense that something inside is ready for change… but you’re not quite sure where the trail leads.

Many people wait because they think they need the right words, the full story or a clear explanation.
But in my work with children and adults, I’ve learned that growth rarely begins with certainty.
It begins with a small shift, a seed pressing upward, a leaf turning toward light.

When you reach out, I simply begin with a conversation.
In my office, that often looks like sitting together and gently exploring what feels most important to you.

We move at a pace that feels steady, like walking a quiet path together. There is time. There is room.

Therapy isn’t about fixing what’s broken. It’s about tending to what’s already living within you or your child with care, understanding, and support.

If you’ve been standing at the edge, wondering whether to step forward, this is your reminder: you don’t have to walk it alone 💚
If you’re feeling curious but unsure, you’re welcome to send a message anytime.

The way we speak to ourselves shapes how we feel, think, and respond 🌿

Noticing your inner voice is often the first step toward deeper self-awareness and emotional balance.

At Retreat Into Wellness, we explore these moments using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to gently uncover the patterns behind reactions that may otherwise feel sudden or confusing.

Taking time to reflect on your self-talk isn’t about simply “thinking positively.”
It’s about learning to respond to yourself with compassion, curiosity, and understanding.

💭 How do you usually speak to yourself when things get tough?
