🧠👟 We're stepping up for brain health!

The team at the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce is taking part in the 5th Annual Métis Nation of Ontario Urban Portage Challenge, challenging ourselves to stay active, support our well-being, and keep our brains healthy through movement.

From September 1st to October 23rd, we'll be tracking our kilometres and encouraging one another to keep moving. We invite our community partners to join the fun! Gather your coworkers, friends, family members, and even your four-legged walking buddies, and create a team of your own.

Together, let's build a healthier, more connected community, one step at a time. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️🐾

Take a Moment to Breathe 🧠💙

Living with Alzheimer's disease or another dementia can bring challenges, uncertainty, and stress for everyone involved. That's why taking time to relax and recharge is so important, whether you're living with the disease, supporting a loved one, or navigating the journey as a family.

Simple activities like listening to calming music, spending time in nature, enjoying a quiet cup of tea, practicing deep breathing, looking through cherished photos, or simply sitting together in a peaceful moment can help reduce stress and create a sense of comfort and connection.

Remember, it's okay to slow down. Rest is not a luxury. It's an important part of caring for your brain, body, and emotional well-being.

💙 Be gentle with yourself today.
💙 Take a break when you need one.
💙 Celebrate the small moments of peace.

Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is simply pause, breathe, and enjoy the moment we're in.

What a wonderful day spent at Andre’s Alpacas! 🦙 💙

Our Neustadt Minds in Motion group enjoyed a fantastic visit where we had the opportunity to meet these gentle, curious animals up close. Everyone had fun feeding the alpacas, learning more about them, and even taking them for a walk!

There were plenty of smiles, laughter, and memorable moments shared throughout the visit. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Andre’s Alpacas for making us feel so welcome and for creating such a fun and relaxing experience for our group.

We loved every minute of our adventure! 🦙✨

What is a Dementia Friendly Community?

It's a community where people living with dementia and their care partners feel understood, respected, included, and supported.

A dementia-friendly community isn't about having all the answers. It's about showing kindness, patience, and understanding. Small actions can make a big difference:

✅ Smile and say hello
✅ Speak clearly and give people extra time to respond
✅ Offer help if someone seems lost or confused
✅ Learn more about dementia and challenge stigma
✅ Support local programs that help individuals and families living with dementia

Together, we can create a community where everyone feels welcome, connected, and valued.

Every act of understanding helps someone live well with dementia. 💙
