Frost on the grass.
Sunshine through the trees.
A fresh start. ☀️🍂

Let this Sunday morning be your reminder to slow down, breathe deeply, and make a little time for yourself.

Bundle up for a walk. Move at your own pace. Enjoy the small moments before a new week begins.

You don’t have to do everything today. Just do something that helps you feel good. 💛

You can feel thankful and still be having a hard time. Both can be true. 🤍🍂

With World Mental Health Day falling on Thanksgiving weekend, we’re making room for gratitude—and for the feelings that don’t always make it into the holiday photos.

For some, this weekend brings connection and comfort. For others, it brings grief, loneliness, complicated family relationships, or the pressure to seem okay.

Whatever this weekend looks like for you, you don’t have to force a smile or explain away what you’re feeling.

At Cobblestone Counselling Group, we’re thankful for our caring team, our community, and every person who trusts us with a part of their story. It’s a privilege we never take lightly.

As you gather around the table—or spend a quieter weekend at home—check in with someone you care about. Make time to listen. And offer yourself the same kindness you give to others.

You deserve support, even when you have plenty to be grateful for.

You don’t have to carry it all alone. 🤍

We often hear that stress can make pain worse—but there’s more to the relationship between emotions and chronic pain than simply “stress causes pain.”

When we learn to view certain emotions as bad, dangerous, or something we must suppress, we can begin to fear our own internal experiences.

“I shouldn’t feel this.”
“I need to get rid of this feeling.”
“If I let myself feel this, I’ll fall apart.”

And then our brain goes:

“Interesting. An emotion has appeared. Clearly this is a five-alarm emergency.” 🚨😂

That fear can increase the brain’s sense that something is wrong or threatening.

And when the brain is already sensitive to threat, this can contribute to the pain-fear cycle:

Emotion → fear/interpretation → increased threat → increased nervous system activation → increased symptoms → more fear.

This doesn’t mean your pain is “all in your head.”

It means your brain, emotions, nervous system, and pain system are interconnected. 🧠

Learning to experience emotions with more safety and curiosity can help interrupt that cycle.

Sometimes healing isn’t about getting rid of the feeling.

It’s about teaching your brain:

“I can feel this—and I am still safe.”

Because the goal isn’t to become someone who never feels uncomfortable emotions.

That person does not exist.

The goal is to stop treating every uncomfortable internal sensation like it needs to be evacuated immediately. 😂

🧠 A concussion is more than “just a bump on the head.”

Your brain is an incredibly connected system. Different regions help manage everything from attention and memory to vision, balance, language, emotions, coordination and sensory processing. After a concussion or traumatic brain injury (TBI), these systems can be temporarily disrupted — and that can look very different from one person to the next.

That’s why two people can experience the same type of injury but have completely different symptoms.

In this carousel, we’re taking a closer look at several important areas of the brain:

• 🧠 Frontal Lobe — attention, planning, decision-making, behaviour and emotional regulation
• ✋ Parietal Lobe — touch, sensory processing, spatial awareness and coordination
• 👂 Temporal Lobe — hearing, memory, language and emotional processing
• 👁️ Occipital Lobe — vision and visual processing
• ⚖️ Cerebellum — balance, coordination, eye movements and motor control
• 🔄 Brainstem — supports vital functions including breathing, swallowing, alertness and autonomic regulation

Importantly, concussion symptoms don’t always map neatly to one specific brain region. Concussion can affect interconnected brain networks, as well as the vestibular, visual, cervical, autonomic and cognitive systems. That’s one reason a comprehensive, individualized assessment matters.

At Cobblestone Medicine & Rehab Centres, our concussion program looks beyond the symptom checklist. We assess the different systems that may be contributing to symptoms and use those findings to help guide an individualized recovery plan.

💙 The brain is complex. Concussion care should be too.

🧡 Today, we honour. We listen. We remember.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our hearts are with the Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of this painful chapter in Canada’s history.

For many Indigenous Peoples, these experiences are not simply part of the past. The loss of family connections, language, culture and community has created lasting impacts that continue across generations.

Today is a reminder of the importance of listening with compassion, learning with humility, and making space for experiences and stories that deserve to be heard.

At Cobblestone Medicine and Rehab Centres, caring for people is at the heart of what we do.

Every day, patients trust us with their health, their challenges, their stories and, sometimes, some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. We never want to take that trust for granted.

We believe healthcare should be a place where every person feels safe, respected, welcomed and heard — regardless of their background, culture or life experiences.

Today, we reflect on the experiences Indigenous Peoples have had within healthcare and other institutions, and on our own responsibility as healthcare professionals to continue learning, listening and providing care with compassion, dignity and respect.

Reconciliation is not something accomplished through a single post or a single day.

It is found in our willingness to listen.

To learn.

To acknowledge difficult truths.

To treat one another with kindness and dignity.

And to continue doing better.

To our Indigenous patients, families, neighbours and communities: we see you, we honour you, and we are committed to listening and learning.

Today, we remember the children who never made it home, honour the Survivors who did, and hold their families and communities in our thoughts.

🧡 Every Child Matters.

With care and respect,
The Cobblestone Medicine and Rehab Centres Team

The biggest risk? Never finding out what you’re capable of. 💚

Sometimes progress starts with simply deciding to try.

Maybe it’s getting back to the gym after months away. Taking your first pain-free walk. Returning to the sport you love. Finally addressing an injury that’s been holding you back. Or simply deciding that your health deserves to be a priority.

At Cobblestone Medicine & Rehab, we see it every day—people discovering they’re capable of more than they thought.

Progress doesn’t have to be perfect.
It doesn’t have to happen overnight.
It just has to start.

Take the step. Set the goal. Do the rehab. Build the strength. Keep showing up.

You might surprise yourself with just how far you can go.

Ready to see what you’re capable of? We’re here to help.

🍂 Back to school is more than new classrooms, new teachers and new routines — it’s a big emotional transition, too. 💛

Now that we’re a few weeks into the school year, the initial excitement may be settling down. For some kids, this is when parents start noticing the little things: tougher mornings, bigger emotions after school, worries at bedtime, extra tiredness, or “I don’t want to go to school tomorrow.”

Cobblestone Counsellor Abigail shares a few gentle reminders for parents heading into the fall:

💙 Keep routines predictable. Consistency around mornings, meals, homework and bedtime can help kids feel secure.

💚 Make room for big feelings. Instead of rushing to fix them, try: “That sounds really hard. Want to tell me more?”

💛 Create small moments of connection. A conversation in the car, a bedtime check-in, or 10 distraction-free minutes together can mean a lot.

🩷 Remember that after-school meltdowns can happen. Kids may work hard to hold everything together during the school day and need a safe place to decompress at home.

💙 Watch for changes that stick around. Ongoing worry, sadness, sleep changes, frequent physical complaints, school avoidance or noticeable changes in behaviour may be signs your child could use some extra support.

Most importantly, your child doesn’t need a perfect parent. They need someone who listens, stays curious and reminds them they don’t have to navigate the hard stuff alone. 🌱

At Cobblestone Counselling Group, we’re here to support children and families through school stress, anxiety, emotional regulation, confidence, friendships and all the growing that happens along the way.

Here’s to a calmer, more connected fall. 🍂💛

You were going to get up an hour ago, weren’t you? 😅

We get it. The chair is warm. The inbox is loud. One more email always feels more urgent than standing up.

But a movement break doesn’t have to be a workout. Fill your water bottle. Walk to grab a coffee. Loop the hallway with a coworker and actually talk instead of Slack-ing from two desks away.

Your shoulders, back, and brain will thank you. The inbox can wait one more minute. ☝️
Need a hand getting your body moving again?

We’re here in Paris and Burford.
