Just a sensitive girl over here leaning in to how big the little things can feel for me as I grieve and fall in love all over again with my new fur baby ❤️‍🩹

It was almost two months ago that Beau suddenly passed away. This came less than 24 hours after getting positive news from my new vet that Beau was in good health and his weight loss was in fact due to the efforts I had been making with his diet. I remember taking a picture of Beau that night outside on the couch with me, feeling at peace and relieved that we would have a few more years , if not more, together. I’ll tell the whole story one day of what happened to him.

I think I have 4x as many pictures of Blu as I had of Beau and Ty combined. Because the silver lining of loss is that it really puts into perspective how fragile life can be and how special it is to have people and pets in our life that show us love.

So yeah, I’m gonna make a big deal of his little blue collar that feels like an ode to Beau and Ty 🩵

I get a little sad in the summer as the days slip away, feeling like I’m not making the most of it being so entrenched in my weekly routines. And I become a little more present too being fully in the moment on my morning walks, my time in the garden or sitting by the fire.

I worry I don’t have the time to do all the fun things I want to, yet I have more time as my schedule always tends to be a little lighter in the summer months, finding myself porch sitting with my mom at 3:00 on a Monday afternoon.

I’m worried about how I’ll make the most of a day off this week, while having the absolute privilege to take a road trip anywhere I wanna go.

Life already IS so sweet, while you’re worrying that it isn’t enough. Take a second to let yourself feel both of those things, but remember that what you focus on, you tend to find more of 💛

Self hatred, harshness, neglect, and urgency will never get you very far in this journey on earth. Think of how fast your relationships in your life would tank, or if you’re like me and love to garden - how quickly your plants would shrivel and die?

Whatever you think harshness does, love can do better. But the question I usually ask clients when they’re showing up struggling with self care, is this:

Where/when did you learn that love felt like that?

And it’s never just one big moment. It’s often hundreds of tiny moments that sting like papercuts, years of subtle messages that taught you love had to be earned, perfection was expected, and your worth depended on what you could do. So many of us learned to become our own harshest critic instead of our safest place.

Learning to love myself unconditionally has been one of most important areas of my own healing journey that I’ve been on (and continue to be on) and it’s clinical work I love supporting others with too.
