You can't eat like you're 18 anymore.

If you're in perimenopause, it's not just your hormones, your body AND your gut may be responding differently to the foods you've always eaten.

🎧 My conversation with on Uncover Your Eyes completely changed how I think about nutrition during perimenopause.

Always bumping into door frames? Spilling your coffee? Dropping your phone? ☕📱

Maybe you're not just "clumsy," maybe it's spatial awareness.

Spatial awareness is your brain's ability to understand where your body is in relation to the world around you. It's what helps you judge distances, avoid obstacles, move confidently through space, and coordinate everyday movements.

When this system isn't working efficiently, everyday life can feel... harder.

👁️ You bump into things.
👁️ You misjudge distances.
👁️ You feel awkward in crowded places.
👁️ You start believing you're just "uncoordinated."

What if you're not?

This is one of the ideas I explore in my upcoming book, Stuck in a Flat World—why our increasingly screen-based lives may be changing how we perceive and interact with the world around us.

The U.S. Surgeon General's office just sounded the alarm on childhood myopia.

📈 By 2050, 1 in 2 people will be nearsighted.

And myopia means a greater lifetime risk of:
👁️ Retinal detachments
👁️ Glaucoma
👁️ Myopic macular degeneration
👁️ Earlier cataracts

The good news? There are science-backed ways to slow myopia progression.

Coffee might be helping your brain—even if it's decaf. ☕🧠

New research from APC Microbiome Ireland found that people who drank 4 cups of coffee a day, caffeinated or decaffeinated, had improvements in mood, cognition, and stress levels.

Here's what caught my attention:
The changes were also linked to differences in the gut microbiome and certain metabolites.

As an eye doctor, I think about the brain every day. Vision isn't just about seeing clearly, it's about attention, spatial awareness, and how the brain makes sense of the world around us.

This study is another reminder that brain health may begin somewhere we often overlook: the gut.

No, this doesn't mean coffee is a cure-all. But it does highlight something we're learning again and again: the gut-brain connection may influence far more than digestion.

💬 Comment COFFEE and I'll send you my guide to getting the most brain-friendly benefits from your daily cup.

🥕 Think carrots are the best food for your eyes?

They're helpful, but they're far from the whole story.

I recently shared my favorite eye-healthy foods in Woman's World, including the nutrients I recommend to patients to support healthy vision, the retina, and long-term eye health.

Because protecting your eyesight starts long before you need glasses or develop cataracts or macular degeneration.

Everyone watches Messi and asks the same question…
How does he always have more time?

Hi secret weapon is spatial awareness—the brain's ability to map the world before the ball even arrives.

And the same skill that helps Messi see the game, is one every child needs to build confidence, navigate the world, and learn.

The question is: Are today's kids getting enough opportunities to develop it?

💬 Comment MESSI and I'll send you 3 ways to help your child play like the pros in any sport.

Pixar just made a Toy Story about a tablet replacing childhood. 👀

The first Toy Story celebrated imagination, adventure, and play.

Toy Story 5 asks what happens when a screen replaces it.

Every fort, every tree, every game of hide-and-seek builds spatial awareness—the brain's navigation system.

When childhood gets flatter, the brain can too.

📚 Your brain knows when you're reading on a screen, even if you don't.

A new study found that people who started reading a story on paper needed less brain activity to understand and connect the story later than those who started on a tablet.

Both groups understood the story, but the tablet readers' brains had to work harder to get there.
Why?

As an eye doctor, I find this fascinating. Reading isn't just about words, it's about space.

A physical book gives your brain tactile and spatial landmarks: where information sits on the page, how far you've read, and how ideas connect. Those cues are reduced when you're scrolling on a screen.

This doesn't mean digital reading is "bad," it suggests that how we read may shape how efficiently our brains learn, remember, and make sense of information.

📘 It's one of the reasons I wrote "Stuck in a Flat World" (early access link in bio)

💬 Comment BOOK if you still love reading on paper—or SCREEN if you've gone fully digital. I'm curious.

❤️ Save this for the next time someone tells you, "A screen is the same as a book."

⚠️ A study of nearly 1 million children found that early antibiotic exposure was linked to a 50% higher risk of ADHD, anxiety, sleep problems, and behavioural disorders.

The risk was highest before 6 months of age, and more antibiotic courses = greater risk.

There is no doubt antibiotics save lives, but it's about knowing how to support your child's gut after they're needed.

That's exactly what I discuss with Dr. Elisa Song , Stanford-trained integrative pediatrician and bestselling author of Healthy Kids, Happy Kids.
