Anxiety isnโ€™t a personal failure, itโ€™s a nervous system doing its job a little too well.

โ€ข Anxiety is not dangerous, even when it feels intense. Your body is trying to protect you, not harm you.
โ€ข You donโ€™t have to eliminate anxiety to live a meaningful life. The goal isnโ€™t zero anxiety, itโ€™s learning how to move with it.
โ€ข Avoidance makes anxiety stronger over time. Each time you face something hard (even in a small way), youโ€™re rewiring your brain.
โ€ข Thoughts are not facts. Just because your mind says something scary doesnโ€™t mean itโ€™s true or important.
โ€ข Your body matters. Sleep, food, movement, and breathing all directly affect anxiety levels, this isnโ€™t โ€œjust in your head.โ€
โ€ข Progress often feels uncomfortable. Growth and anxiety can show up together. That doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re doing it wrong.
โ€ข You are allowed to take up space, set boundaries, and say no even if anxiety tells you otherwise.

And maybe most important:
You are not alone in this, and youโ€™re not โ€œtoo much.โ€ Anxiety is common, treatable, and something you can learn to navigate with time and support.

In the wake of the recent community shooting, my heart is heavy.

As both a nurse psychotherapist and an alumni of this school, this hits in a deeply personal way. This is a place that once held memories of safety, growth, and belonging and to see it impacted by violence is something that is hard to put into words.

What many people may not realize is that events like this donโ€™t only affect those who were physically present. The ripple effect touches students, staff, alumni, families, first responders, and the entire community. Feelings of shock, grief, fear, anger, numbness, and even guilt are all normal responses to an abnormal and deeply distressing event.

If you are struggling right now, please know you are not alone and you are not expected to carry this on your own.

In support of our community, I am offering free and discounted therapy sessions for:

Itโ€™s recognizing that you canโ€™t heal, grow, or move forward by constantly criticizing yourself for not being further along. Progress doesnโ€™t come from forcing yourself into a version of you that youโ€™re not ready to be yet. It comes from understanding where you are right nowโ€ฆ and working with that, not against it.

Phobias are more than just โ€œbeing scaredโ€ โ€” theyโ€™re intense, persistent fears that can feel overwhelming and hard to control.

Whether itโ€™s fear of flying, needles, crowds, or something less commonly talked about, phobias are a form of anxiety that can impact daily life in very real ways. The body reacts as if thereโ€™s actual danger, even when logically we know weโ€™re safe.

You might notice:
โ€ข A racing heart or shortness of breath
โ€ข Avoiding certain places or situations
โ€ข Feeling panic, dread, or loss of control
โ€ข Planning your life around avoiding the fear

The tricky part? Avoidance can bring short-term relief, but it often strengthens the phobia over time.

The good news is that phobias are highly treatable. With the right support, tools like gradual exposure, nervous system regulation, and cognitive strategies can help you regain a sense of control.

You donโ€™t have to keep living around your fear.
