@🌊 Make a splash this summer with water exercise! ☀️
Whether you’re at the lake, beach, or pool, moving in water is a great way to stay active while being kind to your body.

💧 Why exercise in water?
✔️ Low impact on joints – Water’s buoyancy reduces stress on your hips, knees, and back, making movement more comfortable.
✔️ Build strength & endurance – Water provides natural resistance, helping you strengthen muscles while you move.
✔️ Improve mobility – Gentle water exercises can help keep your joints moving and muscles feeling strong.
✔️ Adjust to your fitness level – Whether you’re swimming, walking in the water, or doing gentle exercises, you can choose the intensity that works for you.

You don’t have to be a swimmer to benefit! Try walking waist-deep in the pool or adding simple water movements to your workout.

Looking for ways to get started? Talk to your practitioner at the clinic or healthcare provider for guidance tailored to your needs 💙

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Heather 🌟

If you’ve spent time at BCCR, you’ve likely crossed paths with Heather. Now working as one of our PTA’s and Gym Manager, she plays a key role in supporting patients through rehab and keeping our gym running smoothly and efficiently.

Heather originally began her journey with us at the front desk—an essential role at the heart of the clinic. From there, she has grown into her current clinical and leadership position, continuing to be a steady, supportive presence for both patients and staff. No matter where she is in the clinic, she’s known as one of our clinic moms, always looking out for everyone and keeping things on track (with a very impressive—some might say meticulous—level of organization 😉).

Outside of the clinic, Heather is deep in what she calls “extreme parenting.” This fall is a big one for her family, with Kaelynn heading off to the University of Ottawa and Kennedy beginning a new chapter billeting while playing for the London Devilettes U22 Junior hockey team.

When she does find a rare moment of downtime, Heather enjoys tending to her hydrangeas and peonies, relaxing on the deck with a good book, or making memories with friends and family—especially at concerts. And if you ever need directions anywhere in Ontario, she’s likely already got them memorized.

💙 Heather’s care, leadership, and dedication make her an invaluable part of the BCCR team. We’re so grateful for everything she brings to our patients and clinic every day.

💙 Thank You, Katy 💙

Today we recognize and thank Katy as she embarks on a new career journey.

Since joining BCCR, Katy has made a lasting impact on both our team and the patients she has cared for. We are incredibly grateful for her dedication, compassion, and the knowledge she has shared with our clinic—especially her expertise in concussion assessment and treatment.

While we will miss seeing her at the clinic each day, we are so excited for her as she transitions into home care. We know she will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those she works with.

Katy, thank you for everything you’ve brought to BCCR. We wish you all the very best in this next chapter—you will be deeply missed! 💙

🌀 That’s How We Roll! 🌀

Foam rolling can be a great tool to help with muscle recovery, improve mobility, and ease tension—but technique matters!
In today’s video, we’re showing you what to do (and what to avoid) when using a foam roller.

✅ DO:
• Roll slowly over the muscle
• Pause on tender spots (but don’t overdo it)
• Breathe and stay relaxed
• Focus one muscle group at a time like calves, quads, or hamstrings

❌ DON’T:
• Roll directly over joints like your knees
• Roll sensitive areas like your lower back
• Rush through the movement
• Use excessive pressure that causes sharp pain
• Hold your breath or tense up

Foam rolling should feel like “good discomfort,” not pain. If something doesn’t feel right, ease off or check in with a healthcare professional.
Save this for your next recovery day! 💙

⚡ Shockwave Therapy at BCCR

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment designed to support the healing of chronic musculoskeletal conditions by stimulating the body’s natural repair processes.

The treatment involves the application of acoustic pressure waves to the affected area through a conductive gel, similar to an ultrasound examination. These waves help promote tissue regeneration, improve blood flow, and stimulate healing in chronic tendon and soft tissue injuries.

Despite its name, shockwave therapy does not involve electrical stimulation.

Shockwave therapy may be beneficial for the treatment of:
• tennis and golfer’s elbow
• Achilles tendinopathy
• Plantar fasciitis
• Rotator cuff tendinopathy and calcific tendinitis
• Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee)
• Soft tissue calcifications
• Trigger finger

If you are experiencing a persistent injury that has not responded to traditional treatment approaches, shockwave therapy may be an effective option to consider. Speak with one of our practitioners to determine whether this treatment is appropriate for your condition.
